I have just got my funding in place for an op and am trying to get my head round which procedure I would choose If am presented with and option. Intitially I was leaning towards a band but have since heard nothinbg but bad things about them. Would a bypass be better?
a lot of surgeons chose depending on your weight and bmi I was told that i am just on the borders of bypass/ band but as my pct dont do second ops if the first one fails the surgeon was opting towards a bypass. It also depends on what type of eater you are, if you have a sweet tooth I think a bypass is better as you can get dumping as a physical deterrant and with a band there are ways of washing thriugh cakes and chocolate without having an adverse reaction. Do some research and see what you feel is the best op for you and have a chat with your surgeon when you get to meet him, you may find you don't have a choice as such.
Thanks Tes, after a lot of reading, soul searching and prodding from the wife (who is having her bypass on 25/02) I think I am leaning towards the bypass
I'm in the same situation as Sam, but I do think that listening to the surgeon's advice is the first step. The advice and personal experiences on here are invaluable! I am leaning towards the bypass due to amount of weight I have to lose and the sugar dumping deterrent.
Lots of luck and welcome!!!

Hiya!
Just wanted to welcome you to mini's :welcome:
Good luck in reaching a decision as which op to go with... just go with what you think is right for you- maybe write down on paper pro's and cons of each on??
Anyway, congratulation on the funding- that rocks!!
