Hi Sam i was referred to the endocrinologist due to weight gain and PCOS.they looked at hormone issues and genetic components which may have affected my weight gain etc. to be honest they took blood and stuff but didn't really offer any other support. have a look on the net to see what their full role is. good luck x
i went to see one as they wanted to rule out any diabetic issue i might have .. and also there is a drug they have started to give people who are diabetic that i helping with weight loss ..
they basically send you for blood tests to make sure Ur bloods are OK and there is no hormone issues ..
after talking with him for a hr ( one of the best docs i have seen ) he told me with out blood tests i did not have diabetic problems and the drug would not help me .. i did have the blood test however ..
and he was the one who wrote to my doctor and said ref me to bariatric surgery .. he said after talking to me for a hr he had no doubt in his mind that i would be perfect for WLS .. and i had no history of depression and i was very articulate and knew what i was talking about ..
so it was with his agreement that i was put forward for WLS . and i was given the funding before i even went to see any bariatric surgeons..
The Endocrinologist was the best evvvvvvaaaa He was the guy who said if I had a button to press to give you the money you would have it. He has recommended me for surgery and has started the ball rolling further. If you get this appointment go for it, it does go towards the decision process.
