Waiting for surgery date

Hi I've been looking at this forum for a while but it didn't really seem to be a place for me to leave a post as until I saw the surgeon and bariatric team it didn't seem real.
Well I saw them on 19.01.16 this is after attending a weight loss program for 2.5 years and losing 3 stone and putting 2 on. I went from not working to being a head chef but having so many problems with back, feet, knees goitre, sleep apnoea and total thyroidectomy and cervical resection etc I see a specialist every couple of months . I got to a place where nothing is now improving I cant give anymore at work even though I'm doing well but not having much else of a life as exhausted and in pain. I asked my weight loss GP about surgery within a week I secured funding ( this is because over the course of 2.5 years I had completed unknowingly all the things you need to do to go forward i.e see dietician, physio weight loss methods gym etc etc )
I then had to wait 4 months for an appointment to see surgeon and bariatric team where they did pre op and assessments and discussed possible time frames for having gastric bypass I am just waiting to have the type of operation we chose discussed at surgeon MDT and then they will phone me with a date . ( fingers crossed ) I am with Phoenix Health through NHS at Aintree hospital.
Thank you to all you guys who have posted reading through all the different stages and scenarios you have all been through give me hope at the start of this journey.

Thanks

Erinangel

Fingers crossed you get your date soon!

Welcome and good luck X

Hi Erinangell. I too did all the things your supposed to do prior to seeking WLS like weight loss groups exercise on referral dietitian etc so I was referred in June/July seen in August and because I was doing all the right things moved through the tiers very quickly. I was put on the list in January and now I am just waiting for pre-op and date. I was told my pre-op would be a few weeks before my surgery date. Hope you get your surgery date soon

hi guys well I went to the pre op seminar on what to expect before surgery and got my date later that day 25th April, I've got to repeat my Mrsa swabs as they will be out if date by my op date but all good to go other than that so pre op diet starting around 10th April.

Congratulations on getting your date!

Hello and warm welcome to you, I see you now have a date, very well done! I look forward to reading your next post

Wow that's not long to wait....good luck x

Congrats on getting your date erinangel, I'm so jealous right now!
I went to the group session in early December and have been waiting on a date since then...
Hope all goes well and look forward to your updates post-op:)

Well I have had my blood test s back and I am vitamin D sufficient which is different from difficient I don't really understand it ... but they have reduced my levothyroxine from 200mcg to 175mcg which hasn't happened in the 4 years I've been taking it and I'm now on chewable vitamin D and calcium supplement ....mmm yum. I've got to go back for Mrsa swabs as mine will run out before my op but not too much trouble ... I've lost around 5 pounds as I've stopped with snacks and fizzy drinks so when I start pre op diet it won't be such a shock ... I've got 20 days to go before diet starts and have started having food funerals so had my last Pizza Hut and am planning my last Thai food restaurant trip. I thought it would be good for me to enjoy it one last time and because I know I'm doing the bypass for the right reasons I'm really not panicking yet . I am getting ready for hospital I've got some nice pj's and dressing gown so I feel smart , I haven't bought clothes since October knowing I would get a date this year and I'm a serious shopper so was strange to realise I won't probably ever have to buy this size again , and also maybe one day me and my sister can shop in the same clothes shop together and I could try stuff on instead of just hanging all her stuff up after she has tried it on . Its the small things I'm looking forward to not the thought of being a smaller size .

Your doing what I did.....started eating last things however I've had Chinese since my bypass just chosen differently to I used to and of course 2 spoons full...that's me full!
I was at total peace with myself as I knew I had made the right decision for me, plus I didn't tell many people so I had no negativity. My husband dropped me off in the foyer of the hospital at 6am the Thursday and collected me on the Saturday at 2pm. I didn't call, or see anyone whilst in hospital as it was a personal journey I needed to do it alone. When my hubby picked me up I was very emotional as I knew it was a new start. Keep in touch X

So many things are going to be a delight. Measure yourself and write it all down, I track mine every month :)

Thanks for your responses.. I have had a phone call and I'm booked in to see surgeon and have Mrsa swabs 4 days before op. . Is this just to sign consent ? Does anyone know ? I'm sick at the moment and was annoyed but then thought at least I'm sick now and not nearer the time . I told one of my best friends about op the other night and was expecting all kinds of ribbing and jokes but they just said will it make you feel better in the long run and I said yes it will I believe and the answer was that's brilliant , I was surprised but glad. I'm not telling anyone else but I felt my friend of 20 years needed the truth as we go to eat and think he would take it personally if I just started turning him down without an explanation. I'm finding work difficult at the moment as I feel guily knowing I'm going to be off for a while and the thought of when I come back not being able to taste what I make . I'm a chef btw and wonder whether it will just be a good thing as I will be having lunch 2 tastes and I will be full or whether it will be difficult or not. I'm head chef so I can get other chefs to do this for me but get final say in things . Small things crossing my mind . I've not been quite as good this week with my efforts as work has been mental so physically exhausting and I'm worried for when the pre op diet and not taking enough food in and being super tired .... my other half and I have booked a night away for our 10 year anniversary next week, 7 days before diet starts and a month early so I won't be missing out in May . It's strange though because I am looking forward to the new life I will get to start .. I cry when someone dies on coronation Street so will probably have plenty of days where I'm sure I will feel sorry for myself so I think I'm ready for the good and the bad . Is anyone else Merseyside based I would love to hear your stories of being at Aintree and how things went for you
