waiting times - heartlands, walsall manor and other hospitals under SSPCT

serial cryer!!
Hi All,

I know that heartlands have now lost Mr Kumar and im sure that is going to make a difference on their waiting times but im also looking at other hospitals based upon recommendations,

I would be NHS funded and this is the list of hospitals that South Staffordshire PCT will fund...

SSPCT recognises Walsall Hospitals NHS Trust, Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals NHS Trust, University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust and University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust as centres of excellence for bariatric surgery, and these are currently the only centres where the PCT commissions these procedures.

can anyone shed some light on the waiting times for any of these hospitals?

Thanks in advance.

:flirt2:

thanks hun, apparently (only going by word of mouth) but telford only offer bands and have done 1 or 2 bypasses?

im not sure if this is correct :/

Don't know where you heard that!
Dudley PCT stopped sending people to Walsall and only send to Telford now due to the waiting list and the admin problems.
Dudley also stopped funding bands.
There are at least 2 people on here that have had their ops at Telford and I think they both had a bypass
Louanne79 is one of the people who went to Telford

must have been very old info then!! thankyou cx

Lovely, thanks for that, ill research that hospital also. I don't think my GP knows or can offer advice so ill have to go on what I read on here and other places.

I dont think (could be wrong though) they do any bariatric surgery at Coventry & Warwks, I live in Coventry and my OH was referred to a dietician here but if there is any surgery he will be going elsewhere for it

I am at university hospital Coventry, they have just got bariatric specialist status so are pushing on with referrals. The dietician from the weight management group has come from Heartlands. I have just been put on the list for funding approval either this thurs or 10th Feb, having been at the weight management group since beginning of Sept.

Hmm interesting, my OH had been seeing the weight management team for 2 years. He thought he had been forgotten but randomly a year later got an appointment under Kumar (wont be him though as he has left) for 25th May.

So 3 years on - square one with them pretty much. Their criteria was that you had to complete one years weight management first. Has that changed do you know

Well i was a Walsall Patient and was done and dusted in 8 Month from first referral.I think they have just opened ward 12 that will be the new Bariatric ward and from what i can see they will be doing Ops on most days(from what I can gather)It was a long Bumpy road with Walsall Manor but it does seem to be improving there and dates,Pre ops,And clinic appointments do seem to be coming through a lot smoother so maybe they have bucked the ideas up although they are prone to some pretty big cock ups in the admin department i cant fault the surgery itself and my surgeons bedside manor (Miss Heitmann)Lovely woman. You could try emailing Walsall PALS for recommended waiting times for Bypass there?Fell free to PM Me if Any more info is needed.

Hi muffin top :) thanks for your respnse, I would love a quick journey like yours!! Lol...which pct were you under?

BEN PCT,Although i have been asking for a Bypass for the past 5 years but my GP wouldn't refer me,It took a change of Gp for me to be taken seriously.
