What are comorbidities?

This may be a daft question but Ive never heard this term before.

What does it mean?

they are other illnesses which can make a problem worse.
Like obesity some of the comorbities are diabetes, high cholestorol, high blood pressure etc.

thats how I interpret them anyway.

In literal terms Co=along with, and morbidity=illness/disease. so comorbidity is a disease/ medical problem that exists along with another one. So obesity can have high blood pressure, Diabetes, heart direase, sleep apnoea all co existing at the same time and the obesity is either the major cause of this or complicates/ makes the other condition worse.

ditto to what has already been said, for example my co-morbidities are high blood pressure, reflux, obstructive sleep apnoea, joint and back pain, but luckily for me, not diabetic
