Which Vitamins are best post op

waynetta

I'm on the losers Rd.
Since my op I have been taking the haribiorange vits, which have run out now. Hubby got me some new, all singing, all dancing ones that have absolutely everything in them that is good for you. The only problem is, they are like blumin horse tablets. I tried to cut them up, but they just ended up shooting all over the kitchen:( To be honest though, I dare'nt even try them incase they get stuck:eek: that would be awful!
Any recommendations please:p

I get mine on prescription- they are called Forceval. They are long & skinny but a gel cap so I don't have problems with them.

Nic;)

Hi Allie, I've been told to take Bassetts chewable multivits (raspberry). The bariatric nurse said to take them pre op and post op and they are quite nice.I'm for band but she told all of us at the meeting (banders and bypass's) to take them so you should be ok with them. Hope you get something you can take. The ones I have are multi vitamin and mineral. Take care xx Gaynor xx

I have the bassetts soft and chewy everyday health blueberry flavout they are on special in tesco at the mo £2

The main problem with all the ones like haliborange and bassetts is that they are multivitamins, and contain very few, if any, minerals.

Most surgeons recommend forceval, as Nic uses, because it is a comprehensive vitamin and mineral capsule, and is handled fine by a bypass pouch or sleeve despite it's size.

It is available on prescription, so it's worth asking your GP for.

Post op I'm taking Florvital. It's a liquid, tastes not bad, kinda fruity and is made from all natural ingredients. You can get it with or without iron. Only drawback is, it's expensive but as I'm saving on my food bill a lot I can have good vitamins. I've known people who have taken Florvital because who didn't have surgery. They take it because it's very well absorbed by the body and if you're anaemic and use the iron added formula, it's supposed to be the best thing for that apart from jabs.

Thankyou everyone, I think I will go and see my GP and try & get them prescribed. x
