3 weeks post op.. CANT EAT OR DRINK..help!!

Thanks for asking, I've booked G'band with HW Dr. Fravetti single incision in Manchester for August. Can't have it before then as I'm rarely in the country due to work. So 22 wks and counting. Can't wait. X

Lets hope tomorrows a better day for you and when you can get something down it stays there. Your going to have some serious weigh loss from this hiccup. Xx

I'm so sorry that you are going to be left like this for a further two weeks. I was admitted with my stricture at 4 weeks and they did an endoscopy the same day and attempted a stretch but couldn't as it was totally closed. They then got me on IV fluids and tried again a few days later when some of the swelling had gone down. They were worried about damaging my pouch with it only being 4 weeks so I can understand your team being so cautious. If you stop being able to take any fluids at all please get back to them because you may need IV fluids for dehydration.
I really sympathise with you Hun :( I had some days when I could get fluids and very thin soup down as long as I hadn't tried to eat because once I'd vomited through eating I was unable to drink for the rest of the day. It's miserable for you but just do your best to get some fluids in ( I found warm drinks better than cold) and you will be tired so get plenty of rest. After your stretch you will feel so much better :)
Let me know if I can help in the meantime hun x

I am glad alls well with you :) take it easy

I'm still eating reasonably well, 4 small meals a day, bout 5 teaspoons at a time however weening off anti sickness (they run out tomorrow completely - some finished today) and do I know about it! Makes me think that during my appointment on Friday I shouldnt have refused to take/continue to take anti sickness for the next year or so until things right themself. In the greater scheme of things they help alot (I can see and feel this now lol) but they can cause greater side effects and damage in the long run such as nerve ending damage in the face etc.. Ive been unlucky enough to experience some paralysis in the left side of my face and leg while driving and its pretty scary stuff. My GP refuses to represcribe the drugs I was given by the team, and the consultant i saw says I need something else to take away the 5 I was on in exchange for one pill a few times a day however need to wait for the specialist gastroenterologist to see me, and recomend something. in the meantime the team will not prescribe these for me.

Ive been advised that if I regress to how and cant keep water down to go immediately to A&E who will more than likely administer some kind of anti sickness/rehydrate if needed. Im just trying to keep one step ahead of the game and keep busy to keep my mind off things - life has to go on and some things sadly take time.

Armed with high fibre puree, liquids, vitamins and high protein yogurts and ready for whatever comes up :) no pun intended there.. try to stay positive and not stress too much as that will just tie extra tummy knots and reduce intake. All you can do is keep trying, keep sipping and when you get a beak when you can take in the fluids, have a good dose. I found a nice long bath and shower help - relaxes the stomach and your body absorbs water to reach equilibrium and rehydrate (hence the wrinkled fingers and toes). I swear it might sound crazy but it also helps with the ickyness.

Keep your chin up :) shout if you need anything x

Hi all, I really need some advice! I'm 3 almost 4 weeks post op was doing fantastic, eating and drinking well until few days ago, tried mashed foot from puréed as advised by my provider and was sick, was Obviousley too early. So, back to purée but as the days have gone on I've een able to eat less and less as it just gets stuck and comes back up, now even my water is not going down. I'm so worried has anyone else experienced this???

Maybe you should try veg before you move on to body parts.

Glad it wasn't just me that the same idea Slaz LOL :D

Hope you are feeling better Butterfly

Thankyou scooter, ur advice is always greatly appreciated. I started off good today then suddenly just couldn't eat my soup!! Ive had 3 consecutive days of being ok on liquids I was really pleased with myself. Tonight although I don't feel any physical hunger, I feel like I need to eat, I'm running on empty. But I can't , I can eat it but it just comes back up. I don't know about anyone else but I get this awful pain in my collar bone / neck when food gets stuck.

Scooter, I don't know how you have coped for so long in this state and i really feel for u but you are obviously a strong person and I hope
U continue to fight this head on!!!

I'm drinking as much as I can when
I can, I need to try get thru until 18 April my next appointment but i really don't want to lose weight this way x x x x thankyou for your message it spurs me on, I'll also try the bath thing. Funny enough my mum said to me tonight, are u sure it's not anxiety as well as I suffered with it very badly a while ago, if I'm
Honest I'd say no but who knows what these bodies of ours are doing inside. Anyway I best get back to my "snoring like a bush-pig niece" who's hugs are my medicine lol take care , meg x

Lol my nieces and nephews are just the medicine I need sometimes too :)

Have you tried making your own broth? Or are u taking canned? Give me canned souip I can't deal - something to do with the ingredients and preservatives. Make my own and I'm good to go as control sugars and salts used. Days I can't eat I boil a couple of chicken wings or a thigh to death with a potato, carrot and onion in the milk pan and drink the broth. Oddly enough it goes down fine. Can also blend the meat/potato once boiled too. Thicker broth or mash it as it is and eat as a runnier puree. Just an idea?

I just figure I'm a freak of nature so yeah.. Saying that no anti sickness at all since sunday and so far so good. Eating purely salad and enjoying and going down ok. Restriction is also back and feeling a bit more upbeat and been to the gym. Restriction back as in I feel shoulder twinge and know not to have that bit more. Portion sizes are 4 tablespoons time three times a day atm so that's ok :) drinking like a fish though. Worrying I've gotten through an entire box 80 teabags since sunday! How's it going today Meg?

You could also try step back on jelly? Instant whip? Runny mash? Over boiled veg?

Hope alls well x Becky

Ooooh buttermilk smoothie/ milkshake are good in small doses. Just blitz a bit with strawberries and drink

Hi scooter,

I just noticed your comment regarding a long bath,to relax the stomach..
This is soooo true for me too..
As I'm struggling at the minute with these pains in tummy a hot bath is the only thing that seems to calm the pains down.
Just hope soon I can get answers to things x

I find my body temperature has dropped - I'm always cold - and with foods if I eat or drink cold food like ice lollys or ice water I get stomach pains and discomfort. If I eat hot foot and drinks same thing. I tend to eat and drink room temperature/luke warm foods and am ok. On cooler days I ache and heat seems to help. Think I'm turning into a reptile..

Hope things get better soon for you both, keep pushing forward and try stay positive and enjoy as many baths as you can!

Hi becky,
Some great ideas there thanks. I never gave it a thought about the soups being tinned or homemade. In my head I just think soup is soup so if one goes down they all should.... But what u say makes me think. Some tinned I can't eat. My mum ALWAYS. Has a pan of soup on the go so therefor I know what's in it and I blend it right down. Even some she makes I can't eat, it's crazy. Ingot some of those little jelly's today that have mousse on the top, was quite nice. Ive made the odd banana smoothie with an actively thrown in. Has to be really thin and cold tho. Can't wait for my appointment. It's my weigh in day tomorrow, 5 weeks out and I've lost 2 stone, altho right now it doesn't seem that important I'd rather be able to keep sensible foods down x

Food and eating now seems more of a science. I can't seem to process tinned or packet saoups like cuppa soups. I can drink them/eat them - will a sip or two then the pain starts and sick :( just figure my body has had years of artificial colors, additives, preservatived and detoxed it can't handle it. Have the same kind of reaction with some brands of beans and canned fish. Its like my body only wants fresh quality produce. I'm on salad this week - so far so good

Yes bex I think u may be right there..... I've been thinking I deffo have a blockage or has healed too well but certain foods will go down. For instance.. I puréed a roast dinner Tday with lots if gravy to thin it down...... Was a no go.... Was sick abt 5 mins after it. Left it an hour and tried a rusk.... Was fine??? I suppose I just need to find out what my body will or won't take. I do think I have either a little blockage or has healed to be honest. Not getting half the food I should be and feeling pretty weak most days. Can't wait for my appointment thurs x

Hi struzee, no it was a bypass I had. I had it in Merseyside, aintree hospital by mr dexter!! My providers (Phoenix healthcare) think my new stomach may have healed over too much so will need to go in for a little procedure where they stretch your stomach... Urrghhhh lol good luck with yours, don't let me out u off it's e of the best things u will ever do x

Sorry to hear you are having problems. How are things going over the last couple of days? Do you have a date for your stretch as you must be getting close to six weeks out? x x

Hi samsara, thankyou I'm ok. Had a good few days to be honest, things been staying down until today!! I went to my appointment, definitely need a stretch, will either be this Tuesday or next just waiting for a call. Glad it's something they can sort out but also scared. He said there's a big risk of it splitting whilst having the stretch ..... But what else can I do??? I can't go on not being able to keep good down so I have no choice really!! Thanks everyone for your support x

Oh sorry to hear that :( Do you think a specific food triggered it? A stretch has to be done like you say as you can't go on as you are. I hope it gets sorted very soon x x

At least you have an answer & can hopefully see the end of the tunnel. Here's hoping all goes well for you & there are no further problems.

Well he said its just that it's basically healed "too much" he wasnt my surgeon and he was quite abrupt but I'm just glad it can be sorted out x

Not too happy!! Just had a call to tell
ME I can't have stretch until a week tuesday, which leaves me weak and lifeless for another ten days!!
