Hiya

I'm at Homerton in London. The Homerton sort your funding out for you.The Whittington is in North London near Archway Tube Station.

I think Brett had his done at the whittington, I'm recalling his pct which was greenwich at the time, had sorted his funding out before referring him but I cannot be certain.

Waiting times vary greatly from place to place, don't bank on the 18 week rule as it is down to interpretation. I was referred about 2 yrs ago all told and am still waiting. Granted that is mostly due to them having to investigate other health conditions and each time they needed me to see a different specialist there was a waiting list for each one, then another wait to be seen by the wls team and so on.

The whittington has a great reputation, I'm sure once you have had your first appointment with them things will become clearer, put it this way, if they dont sort out the funding for you they will let you know straight away. They may be one of the hospitals that can do the funding either way.

I've read that if you don't have any co-morbidities then they'll usually need you to complete 6 months weight management course first. Is this for absolutely everyone?? I will cry if I have to complete that first. I know, I know. It's the end goal that matters but I know HOW to lose weight. I just can't do it and keep it off.

On that note, I have done lots of different diets in the past including weight watchers. Will they need to see proof of this? I threw all of the stuff away as it just depressed me to see it!! Silly I know!!

Sorry, just realised I hijacked your post. Sorry!

I hadn't heard anything about this 18 week pathway but I got my funding approved in January and I spoke to my Surgeons Secretery this morning and I'm looking at surgery by the end of October (hopefully!!!!!!) that's way over the 18 weeks that people have mentioned, so I'm thinking LizzieBee is probably right in what she says - that you get your initial appointment within 18 weeks. Can anyone clarify?

Thanks. Kay

I never heard about my funding, I was referred last Autumn. Had my first appontment in November, pre op and aneathatist in March and op in May. x

I think all the PCT's at the moment are playing by their own version of the rules.
the Spire told me that they have from the 29th june when they recieved the referral from the PCT to have done my surgery. this was confirmed by PALS. Im assuming that the PCT are more strict on referrals that are being dealt with privately as there are contracts involved.

Pink im glad you got a bit more information. Its hard to think that anything is going on when you dont hear anything or dont have a clue.

I'm in Leeds and I have to have a bypass to correct a failing old fashioned band (12 years old and not adjustable) that is past it's sell by date. I've been told there is an 18 week target but I've been given several conflicting start dates, from receipt of referral, from first OP appointment and from date surgeon agreed to do op. Surgeon told me they try to keep to 18 weeks but could not guarantee as he is overwhelmed with requests and they are running out of theatre time at Jimmy's where my op is supposed to be. Had a pre-op at the beginning of July and was told this can last 6 months. Just hoping to get done before Xmas. Just keeping everything crossed it won't roll over to next year.

Lyn
