I have to say that having meet David Ashton when I first started my weightloss journey, I found him to be arrogant, rude and ... - he told me there was no way I would get my surgery on the NHS and that I ought to go private. Ive scanned this article and what it brings up is that we all have to keep taking our calcium tablets post op which we knew anyway.

What a shame you found Dr Ashton to be that way. I found him to be the total opposite. He gave me time to go away and make sure that I couldn't get it on the NHS or through my insurance. He made sure I was getting the right WSL not just the most expensive. To top it off even after surgery I can speak to him anytime and I have aftercare for life.

Did you voice you concerns to Dr Ashton or Healthier Weight? I am sure if you have then he would be most upset to hear you feel this way.

Sue - I was with my mum and we both felt he was disgusting. Firstly we had 'the talk' from a sales girl who would have been better off draped over a car in a showroom and then we met him., He was slumped in his chair, didnt bother to look up when we walked into the room, didnt offer to shake hands. He took a cursory glance at my file and said I would never ever lose weight without having a bypass and that all my problems would then be over, both medical and mental - I questioned this and we ended up having an argument. He was also adamant that there was no way I would ever ever get funding on the NHS as i wasnt either big enough or had enough co-morbidities (total rubbish on both counts). He advised that I should really go private. I was horrified as was my mother - I absolutely know I didnt get the wrong impression as my mother came out of the meeting feeling the same. Actually I was so upset, I cried all the way home. My mother has since seen him again whilst waiting for an appointment at the Princess Grace and almost said something. I told my GP exactly what happened and he told me to report him to the GMC. Im still thinking about it. Are you sure this was the same person?

You really should tell him exactly how you fell. Healthier Weight are not a cosmetic company offering all types of surgery to anyone like many others you see who do the procedures for a lot less money.

They purely specialise in weight management and WLS. Is is a leading Bariatric consultant who has had studied for years and trained some of the best (even on the NHS). My impression of him is that he knows what he is talking about and is one of hte most experienced in the country.

If he treaded you this way then you should complain to him and healthier weight first. Like i said I think he would be really upset to know that he has upset someone this way.

I'm in agreement with Sue here, i found David Ashton to be spot on, he answered all my question and in fact i actually found him to be a breath of fresh air, all my adult life i've been shunned by the medical proffession, told to join weight watcher or given some crap fob of by my numerous GP's over the years, to meet someone that understood weight problems and could tell me facts was enlightening.

Sue's right healthier weight are not a cosmetic company and the surgeons and professionals they use are some of the best people in the business, be under no issusion though that you are being sold something, though you as the consumer have the choice whether to buy or walk away.

Having browsed this forum for many months and read what others have said about the NHS, i tend to feel its a bit of a lottery to what you get, firstly the endless struggle to gain funding, and then the aftercare and advice is seriously lacking !

As said before found him very reassuring and so impressed by what i research on him and the articles he has written for medical papers and media alike.
I suppose we all have our off days including him .
