Hi all...I'm thinking of going private with wls sugery group in bham, has any one been with them...I want the gastric bypass...I'm really scared of the canuler in hand and the catheter...and the drip....I cancelled my sugery 3 weeks ago n backed out...I'm thinking of booking it again....but feel quite scared...pls help!

From one big Joe to another, what's a bit of discomfort? It's all short term plus there's pain relief.
Positive attitude - as soon as you awake from the op, you're on the road to not only healing, but getting slimmer and fitter with each passing week. Worth a few days of discomfort? I'd say so.

oh poor you Joe it's not nice to cancel something because of fear :( I do believe they can give you a relaxant so you're not as anxious but I'm sure if you told them they could put your mind at ease I'm not going to say it doesn't hurt but I think the anxiety is the worst bit once it's in its in xxx I hate flying but have booked my first holiday abroad in 26yrs for May once im up in the air there's nothing I can do about it :) good luck xx oh just an after thought what about hypnotism for a couple of sessions x

Nobody wants stuff shoved into them, but it's all part of the process. You're in safe hands and everyone on the ward and medical team only wants what's best for you. Positive thinking mate, you're soon out the other side of the tunnel. :)

I went with THG. I felt just the same about the cannula & needles, I told the nurse how I felt and she put me at complete ease, sat by my side and chatted to me to distract me. Once the cannula had been done my first words were 'that wasn't that bad' and I didn't even feel the needle taking blood. I also asked if I could have the cannula out early (usually left in till next morning) as I couldn't relax whilst it was still in and they took it out about 8pm day of op as I had been stable all day. Don't let it put you off, close your eyes and think happy thoughts or chat to the nurse-even if its about the weather! Good luck x

The whole process is really scary but If it is something you are committed too it is worth it. I'm 7 and half months out and have lost 10 stone. The nurses and doctors will put you at ease. They only put the cannula in once you get to theatre and if you let them know you don't like needles they will make sure it is nice and easy for you. As for a catheter, very rare, I had one once for something different, not weight loss surgery related, and it didn't hurt. Just a bit uncomfortable. I was awake when they did it, if you had to have one - and like I say very rare, then you would be asleep. Talk to your provider about your concerns and I'm sure they will be very supportive. Best of luck, if your are ready for all the other stuff related to weight loss surgery, you can get through the hospital bit I'm sure. Best of luck x
