when i went for my first appiontment they said id go for a sleep thingie but never mentioned anything about this
has anyone had one and what is it ?
thanks vic x

is it an ECG i had one of those at my pre op

Because the heart and lungs are so interconnected the department where they do investigations is just called cardiorespiratory investigations. Are you having your surgery at Salford? (I see your details say you are from Bolton), if so you will probably also have an ECG and you will have a respiratory test which is where they just test the function of your lungs, it is just information for your anaesthetist, dont worry about any of the tests they are all routine when having this type of surgery

Sleep study is common practice - they normally strap you to a little machine which you can take home and then you bring it back the next day - makes you look like you have a bomb under your clothes LOL

lol caroline
ive been to all the appiontments for a bypass but the pct arent going to fund it till ive been to weight managent
the dr i saw at salford applyed for funding and said im suitable for surgery but the pct are dragging there feet
dr shakoor arranged the sleep study so im going to go for it still on the 12th aug x

In the sleep study test they are looking for Sleep Apnia which is quite common in over weight people. If you have it, it won't make any difference as to whether they go ahead with the op or not but it will affect what pain relief you are offered post op. In fact if you do have it then you are more likely to be offered the op as its one of the recognised conditions with most PCT's.

If you have Sleep Apnia then you shouldn't be offered Morphine and are more likely to be offered something like Tramadol post op.

The resperatory tests are routine too and for the aneathetist so that he knows what care to give you whilst under.
