Hiya Honey-DD

I went through the Hospital Group and had the lap band fitted at Dolan Park. When I was discharged from the hopsital the paperwork I was given was under the WGA umbrella, which I did not realise I had until I received the discharge papers. I also had bloods and a urine sample taken the morning of my lap band operation. They were done in the morning and I had the op later that day. A bit of advise, find out as soon as you can how many are on the list for that day, and find out where you are on the list as soon as you can. Even if you have to nag and ring your buzzer every hour, find out where you are. I was 7th out of 8 having the operation the same day as me and I did not go to theatre until 6:40pm that evening, got back to my room after 8pm, and was discharged at 7am the next morning. I felt that I had not had a chance to recover before I was let go the next morning. Make sure, also that you ask for extra dressings for the wounds.

I have no complaints about the surgery, the room, the operation. The aftercare is rubbish if you are under the WGA umbrella.
take care and good luck for your operation.

hi honey, i went with wga 3 weeks ago, on the morning you just have blood test and give a urine sample, then they come give you a small injection that stops blood clots after the op, the hospital and staff are first class, but the aftercare with wga is very poor, three weeks on i am still chasing them for my appointment to go back for the post op xray they keep making excuse after excuse. finally spoke to someone this week who admitted they are so overbooked at the moment with banding that they are struggling to keep up with the post op xrays and dischage appointment ( they are now doing that over the phone to catch up !!) but i must say the operation was great and they couldnt do enough for you when you were there. and also as mentioned find out where you are on the list. i was also 7th out of 8 ( i personally think they do the THG patients first and the WGA patients last. i went down at 5pm. its a long while to go nil by mouth if you are last on the list. Good luck , hope it goes well for you.

gastric band with WGA

Hi, new to this site. :wave_cry:
I had my gastric band fitted at dolan park on 9th september under WGA. On the day of admission i was shown to my room and was given a gown and paper knickers to put on. I had a blood test, urine test and set of obs done. I was second out of eight on the list. The op went well, no problems and was discharged the next morning at 7am with WGA discharge pack. Had small band fitted with 10ml capacity. Surgeon was Mr Super who came to see me later that evening and told me everything went well. Been 15 days since op and still waiting for appointment for x-ray and consultant discharge appointment. Went with basic aftercare package and will have fills done locally with their recommended providers. First 10 days following op had very little appetite at all. Last 4-5 days have started to feel quite hungry. Thankfully im now on the soft mushy food diet after 2 weeks of liquid following the op. Started soft foods yesterday and found i could'nt eat much but i enjoyed the meal so much that i wanted to eat more but was unable to do so. Still early days and i know many changes to come. Have found this site a mine of information and gained alot of reasurrance reading your stories and experiences. Look forward to hearing about how all the banders are getting on. ;)

Hi Angel, welcome to Mini's :D There are a few Dolan Park banders on here, and lots of banders in general!
