My referal was sent from my g.p 5 weeks ago to walsall pct i received a letter in september and october both saying my name is on a waiting list for a 24 week specialist weight management programme and i had to wait for an appointment. I called Tracy low at Walsall manor hospital today and she still not received my referal she asked me my bmi i said 50.3 and then asked my what co-morbility i had i said i didnt have one , she said well in that case your referal will be refused as you do not fit the criteria !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

o nooooo i hear so many horror stories from that area, i hope you manage to calm down tonight and first thing make some important phonecalls... grrrrrrr so annoying hugs sweets xx

oh, im so sorry but i'm sure its not the end for you , you will have the right to appeal x
x

im not sure were i stand as far i was concerned i was waiting for an appointment i have called several times both to walsall pct and walsall manor and NO-ONE has mentioned this to me before

Im so sorry you are having to go through this love, please appeal it and never give up xxxx

so does this mean i wont be starting the 24 week weight management programme??? I dont get it because according to the NICE guidelines i fit the criteria and it was walsall pct that got my gp to refer me after several failed attempts begging my gp to do it, surely if i didnt fit the criteria walsall pct wouldnt have stuck there neck out to get me a referal x

Go to you G.P and get them to find out what is going on....
Or ring the hospital again and ask again hun...sometimes people give out wrong information without the letters and facts in front of them.
I am sure someone will come along soon from Walsall and tell you who to speak to ..

Im soooooooooooo confused, angry and upset because i still dont no were i stand and i have not even seen anyone yet ! i asked the woman at the hospital what do i do now then she told me go back to my gp and ask what else he can offer me to help me loose weight ....i could have bounced the phone off her head lol as if i have not done it all before else i wouldnt want to be having SURGERY .

So Sorry to hear, but nothing surprises me anymore with Walsall, honestly, I really don't think the left hand knows what the right hand is doing with them.

Don't give in, you have to keep fighting

Hi tinker,
I am so sorry to hear this. I know Walsall pct have changed criteria and I think you need a co-morbility even with a bmi of 50+ can I ask:

How tall are you?
Have you been tested for sleep apnea?
Do you have any joint problems?

I would ring the PCT tomorrow and ask her for clarification of the criteria now. I am sure someone under Walsall PCT will be along soon to advise you. I know all pct's were expecting cuts but didn't the goverment say they were not cutting budgets for the NHS?
Either way dont give up just yet.

Linski xx

Tinkerboom sit back n take a breath sweetheart. Right tomorrow ring your gp make an appt to see them. Also email PALS at WM and ask what the criteria is for a Walsall PCT patient to be accepted for weight management course and then ultimately consideration for surgery...

Don't take it as what's said is right...

Lastly are you sure you actually spoke with Tracy today only my Trev couldn't attend his pre op today as he felt unwell and when he tried to ring Tracy he was told she wasn't in.... Hmmmmm

Dont give up, thats the only advice I can offer....this journey is not an easy one and loads of people wouldnt have had the op without fighting for it :D Good luck hun XX

walsall pct have just called me in return of my e-mail i sent them asking them yesterday on the truth of the matter. I was informed that im on a waiting list still for a 24 week specialist weight management programme but I WILL NOT be reffered for bariatric surgery as i no longer fit the criteria as its now b.m.i 50 plus and a co-mordbility (which i do not have ) I cant tell you how bloody angry and upset i am that they are playing with people's lives making you jump through hoops to keep raising the bar , its DISGUSTING......................

Awww hunny.. Im sorry to hear that, perhaps you could appeal on the grounds that you were referred with the understanding that you WOULD get the surgery and therefore have been mis-informed.. and try that way..

Other than that, im not sure.. but knowing this forum.. someone, should be able to give you more information than i..

( i didnt want to read and run)

I too along with others, have been through troubles with Walsall manor.. If you post in the Walsall Massive thread, perhaps you may get specific information relating to Walsall Manor?

Good luck..

I would certainly appeal... take a look at Veronica's and Lisa's letters.... there may also be more...

Sometimes it's who you talk to on the day and it's a wider issue for you so I would not leave it at this...

There is an excellent draft appeal letter somewhere on here.

Love and hugs xxx

Are you with Walsall PCT?

Indeed, the first step would be to go to you GP and get *them* to clarify the situation. If the criteria has changed, then you need to know

1) When the decision was made
2) When the new criteria is effective from
3) If this has been communicated at all

If it has been changed and fairly recently and you were already in the system, then you have good grounds for appeal. In fact, it will be a non-appeal as the new criteria wouldn't affect you.

If they have lost the referral, then there must surely be record of it being sent from your GP. Their bad administration is no grounds for dismissing a patient!

As Bev said, never give up ..... appeal and appeal again untill you are told there is no more you can do.....you would be suprised how many people have got the surgery after first being turned down :D Good luck XX
