HELP !!

Hi there i wondered if you could possibly help me , im trying to find out the Criteria for weight loss surgery at Walsall Manor Hospital West Midlands .My gp referred me 5 weeks ago (30th september 2010) under the NICE guidelines and I have been waiting for an appointment to start a 24 week Specialist Weight Management Programme . I called yesterday to see how my referal was progressing and was told that i will start the 24 week Specialist Weight Management Programme when an appointment becomes available but WILL NOT be considered for Bariatric Surgery as i DO NOT fit the criteria now!!! I want to know what date the criteria chaged in this case please. Im 34 weigh 24stone 3lb and im 5 foot 9 " I have been tested for under active thyaroid and type 2 diabtes my 1st result came back as 8.2 fasted then 5.2 fasted as which my g.p did not take it any further and my thyaroid was NORMAL i have not been tested for any other co-morbidities

If you ring walsall PCT, ask for the bariatric surgery comissioner and ask them

1) what exactly is their criteria for bariatric surgery and where you can obtain a copy of this in writing?
2) Has the criteria changed in the last 6 months?
if yes ask them what is going to happen to the people in the system that have been affectd by the changes?

I have rang BOSPA nad awaiting a reply, i have also e-mailed them asking all the information i have posted on here as soon as i geta reply i will post it on here

You probably won't get an upto date response off BOSPA as each individual pct is responsible for their own criteria. As I said the best route is to speak directly to your pct. Your GP should be able to provide you with a contact mumer if you can't find it on the internet

Good advice, Terri. I have responded on the other thread.

Basically, it is crucial to find out if they have changed the criteria, when they changed it, the effective date and how this was communicated.
