Been to my WLS info session...

FEDup1981

I WILL look like this!!
...at the Hallamshire hospital in sheffield.
I knew quite a lot of what we were told, apart from the option of a gastric sleeve. Hadnt heard of that before.

Anyway, i was sure i hadnt been refered properly, but the Clinical Nurse Specialist was adamant that i wouldnt have been invited to that session if i hadnt been refered.
I have an app with my doc in the morning, so ill find out for sure!

Anyway, they are sending me an app to see the consultant for January, and there is only a 4 month wait for surgery. So im looking at May/June time, fingers x'd earlier .

Fab news!

That sounds great!!:D Gongratulations- hope you get the letter through soon with the appointment! ;)

Sorry didnt mean to confuse you,i was wondering if you have been for your pre op ?if so you will have your operation with 12 weeks otherwise you need another pre-op.
When i went to the wls support meeting i think most of us had,had our pre-op therefore we were waiting for our operation date and some already had it.

Nothing to do with the app with Mr Ackroyd.sorry for the confusion.

No I went to the WLS info meeting, and they said they'd post me out an app with Mr A for the new year, and then the op should be within 4 months of that.

Hi Fedup, good luck so far. A question, was this your first appointment at the hospital after being referred by your Dr? The reason I ask is that I have my first appointment this week and it is a group session. It sounds like it is just an informational appointment(question and answer thing), and I know they have to do this but how many people would do this kind of surgery without doing some kind of research on it first. I would prefer just to go straight to the surgeon and take it from there. What was your appointment all about?

The app was ran by a clinical nurse specialist, and a specialist dietician. They went through three types of surgery the surgeon offered, and discussed each one in detail. They also mentioned life style changes, and just gave you a chance to ask questions. It was to give you a chance to really think about which op you thought might be best for you taking ur eating habits now in consideration. And then you could make an informed choice with the surgeon.

There was about 20 people there, and it didnt feel embaressing at all.

I had researched the surgery a fair bit before i went, but came away with loads of info i didnt know already. Id never heard of a gastric sleeve etc. It is worth going.

Yes it was my first app at the hospital after seeing my doc, and if i didnt attend the session then i wouldnt be allowed an app to see the consultant.

Good luck x
