Can I Snack?

Is it ok to have a snack :confused:

I had my 1st fill last Friday

I had poached egg and toast this morning at about 8.30 and I have been hungry from about 11am but im afraid to snack incase we aren't allowed to

Should we be trying not to snack?

Not really, try and stick to 3 meals a day. Have a drink, it may not be actual hunger x

didnt wanna read and run, is there any reason as to why you cannot snack?? I know Mazza said you try and stick to 3 meals a day, surely gnawing on a carrot or something wont harm you......unless I have missed something LOL

Hi banders are encouraged to stick to 3 meals a day. Snacks in between are discouraged as the more you snack the more you will be able to consume in the day. There is nothing wrong with gnawing on a carrot but that may not have been what Kate was thinking of snack wise :D

Ty for clearing that up , thats the reason why I asked as I know a few banders who do snack and thought that this was the "norm" & the reason I said a carrot as no calories and no fat......
 
I actually have 4-5 small meals a day rather than 3. I was told that this is better as you can't eat as much and therefore by having 4-5 small meals you will not snack.

If you are hungry eat! But just make sure it is real hunger and not head hunger or even thirst.

If I do need a snack I have a rivita crunch.
 
banders shouldnt snack if it can be avoided as its extra calorie consumption we dont need and can slow or stop weight loss, banders that dont snack have better more steady losses and less platues x
 
I was advised by surgeon that snacks are allowed but make sure that a snack is no more than 100 calories and is part of an overall allowance.

His suggestions for snacks were, a small piece of hard cheese, a small handful of prawns, small pot of zero fat yoghurt with 1tsp of honey, small handful nuts or better still soya nuts, or 3 slices wafer thin ham.

As you can see, they are all protein based.
 
You have had the best advice from the band experts...they know their onions, if you'll pardon the pun.

Try not snack if only because you'll sabotage your very good efforts so far...(Plus you'll get where you want to get to much quicker if you don't snack.)

Being thirsty tricks us into the feeling if hunger, so try drink a little more water.

Hi Kate, my dietician said that it is best to have 3 small meals and 3 small sacks throughout the day - she says that this will raise yr metabolism. For snacks I try to have something that challenges my band like soya nuts which are low fat and fill yr tiny tummy v quickly and take ages to digest. You only need a few.

I realsie this is different to the advice given to some people, just passing it on - it works for me but I guess we are all different. x
 
wow jen im very suprised as snackers/grazers are normally directed to a bypass as snacking is not the norm 4 banders xxx

snackers/grazers r not normally suited to banding but more a bypass x

patients that feel the need to plan snacks should not be banded but bypassed, soz but that just my opinion x

I was also told I could snack...see previous post.

My guidelines are 3 meals a day plus 2 snacks. My snacks are not allowed to exceed 100 calories. My main meals 300-400

If they are planned in and low calorie, they count as your daily allowance. I was told this would also help my metabolism.

I guess surgeons have their own thoughts on this.

I don't think people can be pigeon holed like that.

Yeah, I realise this was different advice to some here Liz - I only ever have a little snack when I'm hungry though - and my meals are really small as well _ it all adds up to roughly 1100 cals. I mainly have a snack at medication time. x

So are you saying that it was wrong that I got a band????

And that my surgeon doesn't know what he is talking about when he suggested this for me to me?

It might be how you personally feel but it might not be right for all.

This is how I feel. I am a little disappointed that you as an experienced bander would offer an opinion that seems closed on this.

Lets just say we are going to agree to disagree on this. ;)

Ha! imagine 6 billion of me! Nothing would ever get done and everyone would be neurotic with terrible mood swings - made worse by the fact no-one would have got it together to invent medicine. All of my clones would be thin though as no-one would have invented chocolate, cake, bread or a Spar to buy them from.:D
