Chewing Gum

Could anyone tell me why you aren't allowed chewing gum after a bypass, and what would happen if (post bypass) you swallowed it?

Sorry can't help. I have often wondered if you were allowed sugar free gum afterwards.

Maybe the is a lot of sugar in it or it might give you wind . But you would think sugar free would be ok . Take care .

Hi WW. I've answered this on the Walsall Masssiiiive thread. The reason is that chewing gum forms an insoluble lump which could cause a blockage in the stoma. I would imagine it might be ok in the future - I just don't know, but it could cause problems during the healing phase. xx

I find chewing gum great to keep that horrible taste in the mouth away. Sugar free of course!

I take the advice my mum always gave me.

"Don't swallow it or you'll be blowing bubbles out of your bum"

I still never dare try her theory!
