Confused about referral

Hi all, am new to the site but am after a bit of info if anyone can help me out, I live in South Shields, neaish newcastle and went for a consultation for a gastric band with WGA and was told that i would only be suitable for the full price package as when i'm cut i bleed for quite a while (this being my own admission to the consultant as i have never had any kind of surgery) I was advised to speak with my GP to see if he would confirm if i could go ahead at a place without a HDU as it would obviously be a cheaper option which i did and to my amazement my GP asked why i hadn't come to him to ask for an NHS referral (my gp is usually the kinda bloke that shoos you away with a paracetamol!)

anyway long story short my gp sent me for blood tests, oral glucose tolerance tests (which all came back clear) and also to see a clinical psychologist to help with my referral and told me to be patient... cut ahead 3 months and i make an appointment as i have horrid poofy feet and ankles and i'm told that he's had a fax that morning to state that funding has been approved and i have to ring the surgery next week to get my "your choice" user name and password but he had to cut the appointment short due to an emergency call so i didnt get to ask all the questions i wanted to

now the question... i guess i am now going to see a specialist? but does this seem like i'm all go or can things still go wrong? all he doctor told me was that i might have to go to newcastle or middlesborough or newcastle but again was rather non specific about why!

apologies for the longwindedness but its the only way i could explain it!

can anyone help?

thanks
