Confused from Coventry

Hi, I have been reading the forum for a weeks now and finally made the leap and joined. This may be a ramble so apologies in advance.

I am not sure where I am on my journey so any advice or stories of similar experiences welcome.
I have had several operations in the last 3 years, gallbladder removal, which lead to a hernia mesh repair and several complicatins from this. In short i have been left disabled with severe mobility problems. a lot is down to my weight, I know, which is increasing due to inactivity.
I finally plucked up the courage to ask my gp for referall for wls, he is very supportive and thinks the surgery is'nt done enough. I also have asked the many consultants I have seen to refer me (thought I would go for a pincer movement).
I had to see a dietician at the hospital whose advice was have one day just eating vegetables!!
I have just recieved two appointments in the post, 1 for Dr thomas Barber and 1 for weight management service the week after which will be a whole morning seeing many different people including a seminar.
So does anyone know if I am at the begining of journey or nearing the end (hopefull).
Told you it was going to be a ramble.

thanks for reading. x:D

Hi Snooky

And welcome, I live in Coventry too but my BMI was no where near high enough to get NHS funding. Our PCT is VERY strict.

I do however have some experience of the 'system' (joke) at Coventry as my other half was referred by our GP over 2 years ago.

He attended weight management which was supposed to be for a year but somehow got removed after 3 sessions from any sort of list and is waiting to be re referred.

Here is the criteria for Coventry but it sounds like although you are on your way you may have a bit of a wait!:

BMI over 45 with type 2 diabetes or BMI over 50 with comorbidities which are likely to be improved with weight loss or BMI over 65 without comorbidities. Patients must have failed to achieve or maintain weight loss after one years intensive management in a specialist obesity clinic setting.

Good luck ;) x

Thanks for info. It's difficult to find anyone from Coventry going via Nhs.
I have been to see consultant today and it wasn't as bad as i thought. My BMi is 52, higher than I thought but it helped. Looking at my past medical history and my problems he has agreed to put me forward for surgery, I thought I would have to argue my case. he said it will be dependant on my sleep apnoea test but my husband seems to think it is quite severe. I have to go back in 4 months having lost 5% body weight. It then goes to the MDT for confirmation. Not so cut and dried yet I know, but the consultant who did all my ops referred me for bariatric surgery and he is on the mdt.

So I guess my journey begins now. Can I start a ticker do you think. :)

All sounding positive!

It is difficult to find anyone from Coventry because the criteria is so strict.

It shouldnt be too long for the apnoea test, good luck x
