Diabetic...

StephieAck

I know Ive changed!
...no more!!!
I had an appointment at the diabetes pre-pregnancy clinic today and after a thorough checkup, Phil, the specialist nurse, said that she is pretty convinced that Im simply not diabetic any more. My hba1c was 4.9 and she was thrilled with this. She has made me an appointment with the doctor at the discharge clinic in September, so that he can give me the official word that I no longer need to be registered as diabetic.
As it was a pre-pregnancy clinic I asked what happens if and when I get pregnant and she said that I would just be the same as any other woman, obviously it would be wise to tell the midwives etc that I had a history of diabetes so that they can watch for problems, but as far as she is concerned I am just your average non diabetic person now.
The hypos I suffer are simply reactive hypoglycemia (I mentioned it to her and she agreed) and it isnt a diabetic thing, its purely a bypasser needing to eat more thing.
So I am VERY happy about this news, my number one reason for having the bypass was that it was likely to resolve my diabetes and I was afraid that it hasnt, so I feel very vilified to have achieved my goal re: my diabetes.
Sooooo happy xxx

P.S I had a funny feeling leaving the house so I put a before photo in my bag, was good because the nurse wanted to show anyone even passing by how much Id changed, so it was lovely to see everyone so impressed and happy for me. A couple of people that I have seen regularly over the last four years almost walked past me without noticing me. I loved today, it was awesome hehe

Go Steph.... I'm hoping that one day in the future I will be told the same thing!

Good for you babes... you deserve it. xx

Yay - well done !!

What a relief for you - funny how different surgeries do it different ways cos I was told I'd probably stay on the diabetic register as no-one knows!!

Hope the pre-pregnancy clinic is a good omen!!

love and hugs xxx

Brilliant Steph... that is great news!
Sending you a loving hug and every good wish.
As always,
Bev

Thanks guys xx
Angela...the doctor might say differently to the specialist nurse, but she is pretty convinced that he will discharge me. She said that if the diabetes ever came up again (unlikely) then my history is still there in the records, and to just take care of myself and if I ever need them then they are there. To be honest though, Ill be glad not to have the foot and eye checks yearly and it will save the NHS money that they could be spending on someone that really needs it.
We shall see what the doctor says but the word today was "you are no longer diabetic".
Steph xx

I am soooooo pleased for you steph...
I only hope I can be saying the same thing in the future...
(((((((((((hug)))))))))))))

Wow Steph well done you! Thats fab news! When are you planning on trying for a family?
Im well chuffed for the healthier new you :)

Thanks guys xx
Sally...I am having my bloods checked at my next check up (will be around 11 months out by then, September/beginning October) and then I will be seeing Mr Li some time around the twelve month mark, I will chat to him at that appointment and if the bloodwork shows that I am well nourished I will ask Mr Li for his blessing to start trying at that point. So if all goes well I am hoping to start trying around Christmas time. Im not that sure it will happen naturally though, the weight loss seems to have had little effect on my periods, the gynaes told me that losing a few stone would 'click' my periods into regularity but it hasnt really happened. I felt different last month, I got sore nipples (sorry lol) and kept feeling sicky, then I had a period, a few days off and then another week on. Now I am a month on and the sore nipples are here again and so is the feeling sicky, so HOPEFULLY my body is trying to do something...but Im kind of expecting to still need fertility treatment.
We'll see what time brings I guess.

Brilliant news Steph. Your posts have made me chuckle so really pleased for you. You might find if/when you do get pregnant that they will want to send for a Glucose tolerance test anyway (which i guess you've already done). Good luck all round :)

I'm over the moon for you Steph, you must feel like you're walking on air.

Its one of my goals to be free of diabetes too...

Just Wonderfu!

Stephie that's just wonderful news! I am SO, So, So pleased for you.:D:D:D:D:D

Thanks for sharing, as always, your positivity is so uplifting! :):):):)

I also had very erratic periods when trying for a baby. I have PCOS...and got pregnant quite easily on clomiphene (a fertility drug)......the first time........and on.......FRESH AIR the second time!!!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

My eldest was only 5 months old when I discovered I was expecting number 2 son!

I will be praying for a good outcome to all this! :)

Thanks folks xx
Charis...I tried a few months of Clomid some years back but they said because of the weight it just wasnt working, so we stopped.
If God means for me to be a mother then I will be, I just have to keep that in mind.
Steph xx
