Gastric Band questions

Hi this might sound stupid but im confused is Lapband and Gastric band 2 different things or just different name? From what I saw lapband is not a huge surgery but maybe im reading things wrong?

By lap they just mean laparoscopic, the process by which most if not all bands are inserted.

the lap band is actually a brand of band and is it's own registered trade name, but it's still the same as a gastric band, just it's brand
