Has anyone ever cheated and still hade the op?
I had a packet of crips today and tea with sugar.
and now i am worried that i have done some damage.

That all depends on how close you are to you to your surgery date. There was a lady at our support group who's mother in law had a blow out meal the weekend before her surgery and woke up to find they hadn't done it as her liver hadn't shrunk.

I'd be mortified if that was me so won't consider going off plan!

I was too scared to cheat as I have heard of instances where the liver wasnt sufficiently shrunk and therefore the surgery was aborted as it wouldnt be safe...

I'll get shot for this next statement - but if you are going to have a "blowout" or a "last supper" it should be before you start your pre op diet.

Absolutely right Sambucca, if we go in with the mentality that it's ok to cheat once then we'd never make it too the end.

However, if we also beat ourselves up over one slip up we'd be equally stuffed. The best tthing is to say it's happened but it won't happen again!

im starting my milk diet on sun, im gonna b too scared to cheat jus incase i cant have it done, i know it gonna b hard to stick to but it has to be done, im ooff away weekend too so will have a nice meal on ssat night b4 i start, only thing im gutted about is tha i cant have a drink :( xx

i cheated once while on milk diet , i felt so disgusted in myself for been so weak only had boiled egg sarny, but i made myself sick . then worried like mad about liver shrinkage. I can assure you its not worth risking as my doc said if liver not correct size you will wake up with no bypass. all that time you been waiting i wouldnt risk it. hope u meet target weight and op is a success , tc xx

i would'nt i cheated but i did have to have a few fruit pastilles whilst on the milk diet (big sugar low at work) ;)

You should ask yourself if you're ready for this operation right now bearing in mind that you can't stick to the plan for just two weeks despite having waited for so long for it. I hope it works out for you I really do but if it doesn't you know who to blame. Good luck and at least from now either stick to the diet or cancel and let someone else who can have your date.

Rachel What is done is done, so you have to put it behind you and buck your ideas up - that is not meant nastily, it is a gee up - a slap around the back of the legs!!

I didn't eat anything I shouldn't as I too was too worried, about my liver not being small enough, as I had been told I hold fat around my organs more like a man. Today is 5 weeks since my operation and I have had a really horrid day, being miserable in my comfy chair, sleeping and picking at things. Nothing bad, but still grazing when I shouldn't. We all have off days, but you just have to get back on track. (note to self - get back on track...)

Just make sure you stick to it to the letter from now on, at the end of the day, it is in your own interests. The best of luck to you and if you feel like doing something you shouldn't put a post on here, and we will all shout at you!!

My only slip up was on my first day out of 10 where i took a swig of black vodka. I was at a friends x factor party and i completely forgot about the milk diet. I felt terrible after.

Whats done is done though. On my diary i sort of improvised with soups and chicken, my nutritionist advised me what to do.

I hope the rest of your journey is smoother hun x

erm......i had a kebab the night before my op, i figured that there wouldnt be time for the fat to stick......I'm not advocating this but old habits die hard xx

I have not found it a problem sticking to my milk diet. I space my food out durring the day, and finish off with some sugar free jelly and a fat free yog. Fill up on NAS fruit juice and a milky coffee here and there and at the end of the day I still have about one pint of milk left over - am allowed two to three pints of milk per day. After only four days on this diet I have already lost four pounds. I was going to wait until Monday to get weighed, but couldn't resist.

I keep myself occupied when I get home, and each night I do a housekeeping job, whether it's ironing, cleaning the bathroom or kitchen etc, but do something to keep busy if you feel that you are tempted by snacking. It isn't worth the risk.

Good luck. xx

The pre-op diet as well as the initial few weeks after surgery is pretty much the only time where you absolutely want to stick to the prescribed diet 100%. I'm not saying it's easy, but it's vital. Too much at stake. I would have just about died if they couldn't do my op because I didn't stick to the diet. I know you know this and regret going off plan .. just move on and stick to it from now on and I'm sure you'll be fine. I very much doubt one packet of crisps and a cup of tea would have done much damage.

I have 12 days to go and absolutely daren't cheat. The closest I have come to cheating has been having an oxo in my lunch today.
I did have fish and chips on Tuesday, but didn't start the pre-op diet until yesterday. It was hard in the supermarket today, as I couldn't avoid walking down the biscuit and confectionery aisle (due to the way the shop is laid out).
The thing to do is make a mental note of how guilty you feel for cheating, and next time you feel like having something you're not allowed, just remember that guilty feeling and ask yourself if it's worth it.

I had a hypo incident while on the pre op diet and got a reading of 2.9 and munched four milk chocolate digestive biscuits

When i did my pre op diet i was very strict and did not sway once ... i had my last suppers in the weeks running up to my op. When i arrived in the hospital , i was the only one who hadn't cheated, I felt quite annoyed that they hadn't taken it seriously.... however i realised that the other patients were so worried and stressed that they might end up not operated on , however i was absolutely fine ,and quite proud (bordering on smug im embarrassed to say). One of the ladies on my ward cheated alot and ended up with a sleeve instead of bypass , and another cheater was sent home in floods of tears. Its not worth it ... a two week pre op diet is a very valuable rehearsal for the performance of your life !! Be kind to yourself, you owe your body.
All the very best for your op, i look forward to hearing all about it xx

I have not had my op yet, but I know that even when I have done a meal replacement diet, I wont let a single 'not allowed' item pass my lips. I am a bit anal about it (maybe too much lol)

So, I am hoping with all my heart that I will be the same on my pre op diet.

What was the outcome with the o/p? How did it go?

ive stuck to my liver shrinkage and im still thinking ive mucked up ,so cheatin really aint worth the worry ,,my worry was amounts of unlimited foods ,,as it said ,unlimited,i still felt greedy eating them,it just felt so good knowing you were getting ready for the surgery, and doing the best for your recovery ,good luck all xxx
