Has anyone drunk alcohol 10 days before band supposed to be going out tomorrow not sure if get way with couple drinks

Think about it. The pre-op diet is to shrink your liver not make you lose weight. Do you want to get to your surgery day, get opened up and then not have your op as your liver is still too large?

Is your weight loss journey worth throwing away for a couple of drinks on a night out?

Sorry for being harsh, but reality sometimes hurts :grouphugg:

Yes I know didn't know if would affect it or not. Its weird as I am not drinking anything fizzy anymore so really don't know what to drink I know it's changing my life but this surgery was arranged after this social event and really want to go out but gonna be strange. This is why wasn't sure if 1 or 2 drinks would hurt

Don't do it!

Alcohol will be the worse thing you can drink for your liver. You can drink diluted juice, diet drinks etc. If anyone asks and you don't want to tell them the reason, tell them you're driving.

Don't do it it's not worth it for one night too much of a risk.

Don't do it!! Just not worth it for the sake of a couple of drinks. Also, if you really feel the need to have a drink, maybe you need to ask yourself if you are really committed to weight loss surgery?? As Alcohol and weight loss don't really mix.. The band like any weight loss surgery is only a tool, and it will be up to you how successful it is, depending on the food choices you make.. Good luck xx

I had a similar problem and asked my provider if i could have diet coke and she said that was fine. Its only after the surgery i couldnt have fizzy diet drinks, not before.

If your providers guidance says avoid alcohol, avoid it. Stick by their rules. Gotta get in the right frame of mind for your op. you can enjoy time out without.a bevy! Think positive, and think of your healthier future :)

My surgeon is extremely experienced and didn't require a pre op diet, he is also a liver specialist and has never had to stop an operation due to enlarged liver.
The night before I had a lovely meal and glass of wine, just had to be nil by mouth from midnight.
I would follow your surgeons guidance, but just wanted to give another opinion.

Good luck with your op

Thanks for that char,my surgeon also said I didn't need a pre op diet.its my birthday party on Saturday,so have been a little bit apprehensive as to whether I can have a drink or not (hopefully one or two) as my op is on Monday, bad timing I know, party was booked way before date for op was confirmed.I will have to be very sensible with my celebrations(which I will).

Only a dickhead would risk drinking something that will enlarge their liver ten days before an operation that needs it to be as small as possible.............I'll leave it up to you to decide what's best

hear hear!! couldn't have put it better myself....

Go with what your provider tells you.

This forum has been invaluable for me and I have learned so much, however it has also taught Ne that every surgeon and provider have different rules, and we shouldn't poo poo anyone surgeon, providing they are reputable. My surgeon, Ameet Patrl has outstanding stats and not only will allow you to drink pre op, he has just told me at my 6 week check that I can now have a little drink just 6 weeks after.

We all have to be careful and make the right choices, but I really don't think a couple of drinks are going hurt you, my surgeon has never had to cancel an op due to enlarged liver and he doesn't require a pre op diet.

Good luck with your op and your choices xx

Surely it's just not about how skilled your surgeon is....it's about starting off this life changing opportunity on the the healthiest start possible, and really shows how your going to cope with changes after surgery.
If you can't do without a small drink before surgery..how will you cope after...x

The nurse practitioner I saw for my pre op appointment told me not to drink alcohol the night before surgery, but I wouldn't drink anyway in the run up to my op...alcoholic drinks are full of sugar, and of course like lots of others have said why risk not shrinking your liver enough?

Hi I was told not to drink alcohol two weeks before my op never got a reason but never asked give your doc a ring just to check
Good luck

Wayne. I've also just noticed that this post was from 6 days ago. By now you've been and got trollied and are 4 days to your op. I hope that your first thread hasn't put you off being a member of this site. Most people on here are incredibly supportive, informative and can offer advice and a giggle when needed. Good luck with your surgery and let us know how you got on. Julia
