Has anyone had a friend wanna do your diet?

Im not sure if im a bit pee'ved off or not about this.

But since I've done my pre-op diet and lost weight on it, it seems a few of my friends keep asking for the milk diet details as they think its a good way to quickly lose weight?

I feel a bit insulted I spose by it, as well, its meant to be for a weight loss surgery kinda thing....not as a quick fix for others.

Hmmm not sure how to put this or not....

Has anyone else had this?

I would basically apologise and say I wouldn't want you to get hurt- I was told this was only appropriate under medical supervision. And I would feel awful if something happened to you.

Thats hard to tell them when its your close friend and your own mother!

If it were my mum, I'd be stubborn and just say no. But then that's cos its my mum, and I'm a stubborn cow!
Otherwise just try and be honest and tell them it should be medically supervised (which it should) and could they maybe try something else as you feel a bit worried about giving it to them?

Hmmm I think its my own slip up, as of course ive told my mum what I was taking or what i was eating etc during the milk op, So she basically said to me, what is the full specification of the milk diet, once I did, in casual convo, she said, 'ah well im gonna give it a go for a couple of weeks to shed this stone...'

Ive tried the 'well its really for post op' or the 'your more likely put it straight back on as its a specialist diet'

Now I mentioned it to my friend, that my silly mothers gonna try the pre op diet that i done, as she wants to shed a stone...and now my friends gone and said 'oh well maybe it will kickstart me on my diet, can you send me the info'

And i was like...'ummmm...ok'....as she never got the point to why I was moaning about my mother!

lol I guess, if I saw the weight off someone I'd want to try what they did. That's presumably why we all had surgery, because we've seen/read/watched success stories. They'll get bored of it most like - it was only the surgery that kept me on track.

tell her that the low carb high protein diet is the better one if she wants anything similar. It's still healthy enough to get you through normal diets rather than a pre op one.

Tell them the milk diet is 4 litres of milk a day and 14 yogurts.. Something stupid... that will put them off :) lol

why no

hi can i just say if shoe was on the other foot and it was u wouldnt u wont to try it, have to say i would and iam shower your mam and friend would stop if it didnt feel right jackie

tell them its to shrink your liver, most people say yuk!!

Well if either has access to the net they can find it anyway.....if it were me I'd give it to them, they'll soon tire of it.

Blue I agree with Yve it should not be done without a doctor saying they are medically fit to do. The high protein diet is much healthier. Milk diet can have some serious side effects and we all have access to our teams if we need it. It is essentially to shrink our liver any way and yes they can search the Internet if they really want it!!!!

Don't forget to tell them that when they start to eat normally again all the weight they have lost will go straight back on.
I had loads of people ask me about it, and when I told them what they could have on the milk diet they soon change their minds.
Seems food out does milk and yoghurt any day :D

Yes, but I'm not bothered about it with the particular person concerned.

My friend Erica who stayed with me overnight on Mon 16 April and took me into hospital on Tues 17 April has now mentioned she is thinking of giving the Slimfast wotsit (that I did pre-op) a go.

Erica is about size 16 but would like to be a 12, and like many people who are only "slightly" overweight she struggles to stay where she is -- if she diets consistently she says she can get down to a size 14 about twice a year (!).

She also jogs quite regularly and recently did a 10K run ..... but said her weight was back up 10 lbs within two weeks of completing the run and easing off training.

Erica is a grown woman in her 50's so if she wants to do 4 x Slimfast a day, I am entirely happy for her to do so -- it's her choice, her body, her life.

Oooh, by the way, this is Erica and me the night before my surgery outside the hotel (I had not posted this anywhere else before).

Oh yeah all the time. My bestfriend put herself on it she's approx the same weight as me (around 27st) no medical issues etc and lost 11lbs.

I didnt tell her not to because even if I had said not too she wouldn't of listened. if she wants to do something she'll do it lol

i don't say ok this is what you do "xxx" but because she knew what i was allowed she just copied.

I made up a milk diet for myself when I was 17 and couldn't afford meal replacements lol. I drank milk and took vitamins. The weight was dropping off but ended up with the worst constipation of my life lol. So not recommended lol

People are better off trying real meal replacements as they are vitamin complete. But, we can only warn people, but can't stop them trying what they want to try. I have given every stupid diet a go. The milk diet probably isn't as dangerous as some of them x

I got the hump when my friend said she would do the pre op diet with me because I felt she was doing it for all the wrong reasons...after all, my surgery is supposed to be "all about me!" Anyhow, I didn't give her the details so she did the reserch herself and managed to stick to the low carb high protein diet for all of 2 days, then wondered why she hadn't lost any weight. Some support she turned out to be!

Unless you're going through something yourself you never really understand what it's like and so I am thankful to have this site and everyone on here for support.

I am More Than Freeman, thanks for listening!
(Go on, you can admit it, you read that last bit in a funny voice didn't you?!?) :D

Some people partners do the pre op diet with them to help them stay focused. I think that's pretty sweet :) my partner would have disappeared to nothing lol

They are doing it anyhow, Ive mentioned its not the best diet, and that it is for pre-op...but non-the-less they wanna try it...So Ive said my peace.
