How much extra does keyhole cost and can you pay the difference yourself???

strawberry twig

Is a big loser ;)
Does anyone know how much more keyhole surgery is???? And can you pay the difference yourself??

I think I remember reading on the posse thread that it was either £4000 or £4,500 and yes you could in theory.

OMG...i never even thought it would be more! if anything i would have thought it would be less. i though surgeons decided which, open or keyhole based on individual patients bodys etc...the price i paid was for keyhole...if i had had a bmi over 50 on day of op i would have had to have open and the price would have been £4000 more as i would have to be done at a different hosp and have 2 anesthatists, more theater peeps etc and go in high dependancy after etc...

Twig as the others have said, there was someone (I think it might be weightlosswannabee) who enquired about exactly that and was told she could pay £4500 as thats the cost difference at Walsall Manor.

It does seem that WM have a preference for performing open surgery for whatever reason. THe only downside to open surgery that I can see is longer time needed off work, but that obviously depends on yoru job. I think you would be fine hun x

Hi, Twig,
I've been told that at the time your funding is applied for, you can write to the PCT and request to pay the difference.
The difference in price between open and keyhole is round about £4,500, depending on where you have your surgery. Sandwell PCT will only fund open surgery at Walsall Manor, but they will fund keyhole surgery (in full) at Heartlands.
Hope that helps.

Might be worth asking the Walsall Peeps whether they have been stitched or glued? And if stitched whether they were disolvable ones or whether they had to be removed.... Did any of you have problems with your wounds whilst in recovery?

Just worth mentioning that you can get funding for keyhole at Heartlands but they only do banding not bypass. Also Alexa who posts on here had her band done at Heartlands and it failed. She ended up having to go to walsall and have it removed and then had bypass at walsall.

I was stitched and glued the stitches dissolve so no going to have them out

I did get an infection at the bottom of my wound but Im just not a good healer I had the same prob when I had my C section and when I had keyhole when I was steralised

Really?? So no going back to have stiches out or anything?? my c section didnt give me any problems thank god. I feel better about that now thanks. I was thinking all sorts about staples n stitches.

I dont want the band, bypass is the one for me, the two people i know who had bands haven't had much success. They did at the start but then they started picking an cheatin and well i'm not taking the risk lol. If i'm gonna do it then i want it to work.
