If they can do Caesarians (can't spell, but meen in child birth) then don't see why not as thats like an epidural...but maybe that would only deaden the pain from the waist down???

I would say no as it can take 5 hours for a bypass depending the patient.

And i think thats a bit long to keep a patient still etc. plus if you do move it could be fatal.

But saying that they do brain operations with patients awake . but i think they make them sleep then wake them up duting the operations then make the sleep again.

But as im just a man ive been known to be wrong

they could possibly give you a spinal block/epidural for banding but i very much doubt ey would want to without very good cause and i would say near impossible for bypass , personally i dont see why anyone would want to be awake for it

i was never given the option. the bypass took around 4 hours and i'm glad i was out of it to be honest!

I'm certainly no anaesthetist, but I seem to recall that you are blocked below the point of needle entry which means they would need to block you from the neck down. Caesarian delivery rtakes roughly one hour (including stitching the layers up afterwards). Band/bypass is a much longer procedure, so I can't see how it might be done under a local.

I guess it's a question for your bariatric team! Do let us know

I totally agree. Having been awake through one general, I never wanted another but have landed out having four since and I am in bits every time they start preparing me.

you'll be able to send private messages to members (click their name next to their post), view their profile (again click their name) and if they have photo's you can view them too. You'll find though that a lot of people have their photos set so only 'friends' can view them (you'll see friend request stuff on people's profiles). Mine are set up like that.

Just to add, you have to have private messages enabled to use them. Click user CP at the top, then edit options on the left hand side, and enable private messages is about half way down the page.

Yeah, that's the reason, but I can see the point because it is a long op.

I also think a lot of people are scared that they wont wake up too...call me insensitive, but you would'nt know about it anyways!

you would need the spinal block too high up which would then effect yr breathing. I had a local for my shoulder op in july last year and then had to stay in hospital for 2 nights whilst the block wore off and my breathing returned to normal.
The effect of the block was far worse than my bypass.

Dont worry about general,ask for premed and ask the theatre nurses to talk you through everything instead of laying there worrying what they are going to do next!
