Interesting post for a none loser like me...

Hi Julie
Thanks for sharing this article. I, for one, never realised this could happen to people. I really hope you can find an answer cos it must be very frustrating for you and I just wanted to say hang on in there and keep asking your team for help.
I have noticed that when I put the same daily diet into different websites like my fitness pal etc there can be a big variation in the number of calories it says and I think some are a bit on the low side. I would keep a record of each day and show these to your team so at least they can see what you are doing and give you some good advice.
I would also refuse to end the appointment until you get some answers - be assertive and take the article with you so they can see what you are battling with in your thinking.
Just wanted to let you know that everyone appreciates your help and support on this site and hope things get sorted for you
Loads of love

Jo, when we've finished the slimfast (i brought 2 tubs and me and Mr Momma are using them) i will revert back to food but i will weigh and measure as much as i can to get a good guess of proportions and calories used. I will be recording it too for the dietician....

As for the support i try and give. We all get a lot from this site and i truly believe we should give back. There are days (especially the last couple of days) when i've not much felt like coming on but it does actually help me a lot xxx

Please don't go away and stop posting. I know I really appreciate your replies to everyone and you are so well respected on here that the site would be a poorer place if you didnt come on here. I think I would speak for everyone in saying you are a star and we all feel your disappointment because of that.
Please try to keep at it and dont stay away -we would miss you
Im only down the road from you so if you ever want to meet for a coffee and a chat just let me know
Loads of love

Jo, i'm not going anywhere! It helps me to come on here and not only see i'm not the only one struggling but also to come on and see the success stories of other people, especially my dear friend Wendy who until very recently kept her losses (which are fantastic) to spare my feelings (the daft mare)...

ps, fancy you being so close, i used to live in Bromsgrove lol x

Julie I really feel for you - you are always so nice and helpful (and sound very jolly!) - I am sure it must be awful to read how well everyone else is doing and then worry about your own losses not measuring up. There must surely be a reason and I do hope you get some answers.

I think not dumping makes it difficult - I must admit apart from one incident a few days out from my op I dont actually think I do (I tested on ten cadburys chocolate eclairs and a tunnocks tea cake and I did not even feel remotely sick/dizzy or have any symptoms) I am now aware of this and think that I am going to have to keep myself on a really tight rein or I will be on a slippery path :17729:

I really hope that your team can give you some help. Hugs xxxx

Certainly something you can ask your team about, I have read something similar before. Not everyone looses masses of weight with a bypass or other WLS, its really demoralising when you see other people steaming ahead. Thats part of what I dont like with this forum, although there is masses of support its easy to feel like a failure when you compare yourself to others.

Zoe - hi not seen you on here loads but thought I would just have a catch up with you. I had my op the same day as you and as a comparison I think we have actually lost similar amounts of weight and both lost around 10 BMI points. I feel that I have done quite well on the whole (even though I do have naughty days because I have found I can . . .). Everyone seems to lose at a different rate and I suppose in a way I am lucky in that because I only started with a BMI of just under 40 - at 10 BMI points less I have found that I can exercise much more now - not in the gym just in day to day life. This obviously helps with using up calories.

I do hope my posts are not ones that have made you feel down:cry: - I just find it hard to hide my enthusiasm about the new me . . xxxx

Hiya Mel,

I understand how Zoe feels but I don't think anyone begrudges others losing weight faster etc, or being enthusiastic about it either! Everyone has the right to shout it from the roof-tops, being overweight is something we've all battled with for a long time & I think it's great to be a part of others' success, and I know I wouldn't want anyone not to post how great they're doing, because it's uplifting & inspirational. I personally think it's more a case of human nature...we can't help comparing although it's the worst thing we can do, so if we are the ones not losing so quickly, we feel disappointed in ourselves. That said, I know I'll get there in the end, I'm sure we all will! xxxx

I don't begrudge anyone their losses, but as others have said it's so easy to be sold the dream... We hear fabulous stories of enormous amounts of weight been lost in a short space of time and think it comes automatically with the surgery. The reality is this, it comes to some very easily (they obviously have fab metabolic rates) and then some of us struggle. The moral of the story is this: watch what your eating, don't let bad habits sneak back in and get off your butt and move..........

It's scary but very useful to read about how you're struggling Julie. I really hope I'm one of those people who loses quickly and can't eat much because I know damn well that I have very little willpower and it will be so easy for me to cheat if I don't dump. How are you getting on with your exercise goal btw? I struggle to motivate myself to exercise and can't afford the gym but I do walk for a couple of hours per day with the dog which helps increase my general energy levels too.

Sal, look at my signature, i did quite well with the loss in the first three or four months and then a virtual stand still. I haven't considered 'revision' surgery but prior to my surgery i had never heard of anything like this. I had heard that people run the risk of gaining weight once they have lost the weight but nobody said i would not get anywhere near there. It does concern me, to the extent that for the last 3 months i've been considering weight watchers or such like. I didn't have surgery too count points/calories but today i find myself counting calories....

I have rung the dietician (who was sending me a new appt through when i missed the other one i asked for when my MIL was critically ill) and she will sort me out a new appt for mid Feb, in the meantime my honeymoon period feels like it's all over for me!

Each month i go to the support group and everyone says how great i look and i know darn well i'm no different from the last time i went.....

I feel like i'm letting myself down!!

I actually feel the same as you Julie. I too did really well the first 5 months and then have stayed the same ever since (9 months ago now). I am trying to count calories now too..... not what I expected :(

I started walking again yesterday, me and Trev did 40 minutes yesterday and today. I'm hoping to start walking to/from work next week, which is 1.5 miles each way and then walk with Trevor in the evening too...

good luck with it - i would love to go swimming again - just finding the time cos am working a lot at the moment

:(

that's great hon. i've found that the regular walking has really helped to reduce my knee pain a lot. I've started using a pedometer too so I can try and get my 10,000 steps per day. If I don't do it all whilst out walking it reminds me to move around a bit more at home just doing general housework etc.

Sue? Me n you are in this together sweetie! We will get where we want to be :) xx
