Hiya wondering if it's worth getting used to the smaller portions ect I'm only at the beggining of my journey but want to get my head in the right place x anyone tried it befor? X

Evening Clarabelle
I was just about to turn in when I saw your post!
im currently trying to stick to smaller portions like you its about me getting use to it
some days are better than others
I have a side plate that I like to use about 4 days out of 7 the other 3 days I do sometimes "go large" (!) but instead of the usual chips and other stuff filling up my plate I now im a veggie queen !
its more like a mind game my trick is to use my side plate and once im finished IF im still hungry I have a glass of water then wait and see then if it still carries on then im in the fruit bowl
I wish you luck
keep on posting

I did a few months before pre op cut my portion size down and ate the 20 20 20 rule i was amazed at what the portion sizes were going to be post op, so it was a bit of an eye opener. i followed this for a week and managed to loose 8lb but just couldn't sustain that long term as the hunger kicked in big time. But i found it was worth a go :) Try just eating from a small plate, eating no larger than your hand. What ever you loose in the meantime is fantastic too x x x

Thankyou for the reply ladies xxx my portions are so huge ATM I'm already panicking!! Ok so smaller plate and fist size :) Thankyou!!!!! Xxx need to find a small plate ;)

Great idea :D a smaller plate or bowl does get you in a better mindset. Good luck. Los in it is doing well without having had the surgery yet!

Thankyou I hope so xx where to find a small plate and bowl x was thinking of my LIttle ones ?? Too small? Xxx

I am post op and I now use a plastic toddler bowl (Minnie mouse bought in Tesco) so I'm sure your kiddies stuff will be fine, if you are still hungry you can always go for more but it will be more of a concious decision rather than just eating because it's on your plate :)

So true :) xx ok I will have to pick up a few bits and start :) Thankyou xx.

I personally have gone for a regular side plate as I feel im not a kid so I don't eat off a kids plate !
im sure if you go to any major store you will find a side plate for a few quid if not try a charity shop they always have plates in of all different sizes

Ooo love a charity shop any excuse hehe Ok will have a look xx

LOL I have hello kittie kids stuff to eat off and kids cutlery to slow me down at work, then a flora heart shaped plate for at home, which seems to be just about the right size so I don't need to weigh my food all the time. Contrary to what we are told to do (ie focus on eating rather than doing other things at the same time) I usually am tapping away on my ipad as subconsciously I slow down my eating then too. I cannot be faffed with 202020, egg timer, or the like.

I don't feel like a kid but it brings a smile to my face and works for me :)

Hey :) I cut down a lot on and off (bad habits when suffering emotionally took it's tole) for about 6 months before my op, limited my carbs too.. I feel it really helped and I feel I've been very prepared for post op. It will also help weight loss before the op, which is always a good thing!

Hi & welcome Clarabelle :)
I did so for 9 months prior to my bypass op. For over two months on my own I lost over 3 stone and then I had the Orbera balloon fitted & over the following 6 months I lost over 4 stone. So in total just over eight stone by using a small tea plate, small cutlery and by concentrating on lean protein and then my veg which I still do btw ;) & yes it did help me get my head into the game so to speak :)
Good Luck hun
