ummmm im not sure to your questions but yaaaaaaaay xx

Great news love, made your day that did lol x

Can't answer your questions because you haven't put any info as to where you live (so we might know which PCT you come under hence what guidelines they stipulate), or any info re. your weight/height etc so we can ascertain your BMI, but congrats on getting your first appt through.

sorry angie thought it was on the side panel i live in warminster wiltshire im 5'5 weight 17'9 bmi last time i checked was 41 i think any info would be great thanks x

hi julie no i dont have any co-morbidities this is what im worried about because alot of ppl on here have co-morbidities in relation to being over weight who have had their wls i hope just because i dont have any the dr doesnt say no fingers crossed x

Southmead don’t normal see anyone till the funding has been granted. If you have your appointment for Southmead I would say your funding is now in place.

hi angler yes i have my funding in place just wanted to know if the hospital have there own requirements to saying yes ie bmi and that x

Well the BOSPA site states Warminster follow NICE guidelines for criteria for WLS funding, I do know this is from 2007-2008 and much has changed recently in some areas for funding. However, you say you have funding in place (which is often the biggest hurdle) so therefore it will be unlikely the individual hospital will decide that a different BMI/co-morbidities will be required before they will operate xxx

When you go in to Southmead from Monks park road entrance, park in either of the car parks on the left or right as you go in. The entrance to outpatients 3 is through the A&E entrance in the car park on the left.
On my first appointment I was there for about 5 hours, you have to talk to at least 3 members of the multidisciplinary (consultant physician, nurse and weight loss surgery specialist and the dietician) and get weight and your height recorded.

1.) The dietician will chat with you about your eating habits and suggest ways to improve them, they don’t give you a diet they like you to make the changes yourself.

2.) The nurse and weight loss surgery specialist will chat with you about your weight and the reason you want WLS. She will also try and help you work out when and why you started gaining weight etc.

3.) The consultant physician will also chat to you about your weight and give you a quick medical examination (hope they have the heating fix in his room now it was cold last winter when I have to strip off in there LOL)

Each interview last about an hour, if you are lucky you’ll be able to go straight from one to the other without any waiting.

After about a week or so they send out the date for your second appointment, this is where your weight will be checked again, they are happy with any weight loss try and aim for about a pound a week or more.

When they think you are committed to your WLS you will be referred to the surgeon. They are not looking for you to lose lots of weight they want to see a steady amount coming off every week i.e. 1 to 2 pounds a week is fine with them, they will also look for you to up your exercise a little bit.

When they recommend you for surgery you will be sent an appointment to see the surgeon, who will give you an upper GI endoscopy study. You may also have to have an oesophageal manometry study done, if you have to have this study it will done at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.

Once this is done you get a pre op assessment which is in the Brecon unit passed the barrier at the bottom of the left hand car park.

Then it’s just waiting for them to send your op date, which seems to take forever. I’ve been waiting since the end of August for mine.

Sorry if this post is a bit long hope it makes some sense to you.

thank you so much for that information angler its just what ive been looking for my i ask what surgery you are getting and if it was your decision or did the dr just tell you what you where getting thanks tina xx

After talking it through with the team (I’m not in to sweet things like cakes, biscuits, chocolate etc) we decide I would go for the band because my biggest problem is portion control.

hi hope you dont mind me asking these things angler its nice to find someone who is having surgery in the same hospital also if you could tell me roughly how long its taken from you first hospital appointment to your last appointment that you said you had in augs thanks alot hope you dont mind that ive added you as a friend thanks again tina x

Tina,
I don’t mind at all, just wish I had someone I could have asked.
My first appointment at Southmead was 9th November 2009, and my pre-op assessment was on 30th September 2010. Now just waiting for them to send me my op date they hinted I would hear from them in December.

ill have my fingers crossed for you, hopefully not long now dec not to far, keep me posted. knowing me ill think of something else i want to know and be pestering you again lol thanks again x
