Hi everyone. I'm Shelley, I'm 31 and due to have my gastric bypass on the 31st of May. I started my pre op diet today (milk diet) although I started a low fat diet over a week ago to get me started.

I'm very excited about my surgery and life after, obviously nervous too but the real nerves haven't kicked in yet. I'm the same as most people had a long frustrating wait to get my date so I'm just so pleased it is finally happening :)

Anyway that's it for now. I look forward to getting to know you all soon :)

Shelley x

Not long now for you!

Hiya Hun,

Welcome to the site, good luck in you journey. Lots of knowledgable & friendly people on here so I'm sure if you have any questions someone can help. Clo x x

Hi Shelley nice to hear from you I'm Chris and I had my bypass lasy August, keep goin with the preop diet you'll be fine good practice for after your op. It is a long haul for lots of us getting to our op dates but you nearly there now. Oh and im' 46. Like everyone has said its lovely on here, most people are friendly and helpful, there is always someone to chat to, and help you through the rough times. Keep posting when you can and we'll try and help with any questions we can answer. Take care xx Its the final count down for youxx

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome already :)

yep the wait is awful, it's very rarely straight forward what ever route but to people reading that are still waiting on their dates and appointments when you get that call, it makes up for all the frustration and stress :)

I shall let you know how the pre op diet goes. So far I'm hungry but not "starving" but finding that I can't sleep making it worse but that is normal for me.

Again thanks for the lovely welcome.

hi and welcome xx

I see you have Mr Guy Slater......all i can say is lucky you...he is fantastic!!! i live a long way away from the hospital but choose it on the basis that there care is 2nd to none and i havent been disappointed, they treat you with the upmost care and dignity and as strange as it sounds its a pleasurable experince having someone like Mr guy slater looking after you, if you have any questions i'l see if i can help, when i was getting ready for my op this site was invaluble source of support and wisdom xx i wish you all the best and keep strong with your pre-op as before you know it you'l be having surgery and you'l feel proud as punch that you done it xxx

Thanks sicknote, yes I also picked Mr. Slater as my first choice after some research and feel completely safe in his and his teams hands as I've heard nothing but good things about them. I absolutely detest hospital due to some bad trement because of my size in the past so I'm almost looking forward to being their in comfort and knowing people there want to help you get better :) Even the pre-op was far better than I thought it would be.

I'm 3 days into the pre op diet and i'm finding it hard but I'm sticking too it. I woke up dreaming of an omelette this morning and I don't even really like them but I am determine not to cheat :)

Thanks again for your support.

Thank you :) I'm loving it here already, can't seem to stay away :D x

Hi Shelley, so glad you have joined as I have just chosen St Richards in Chichester, but I am having my surgery NHS funded, I only got my funding granted last week and chose my hospital today. From what I have read here I really hope I also get Dr Guy Slater, he seems so very popular. I can wait for the next step. Good luck with your journey and look forward to hearing about it!!. :)

Thanks Sharon, this place is great so you great plenty of support and help. I've only been here 5 days but I'm pretty much here all the time because my surgery is so soon it's all I can think about and the forums help with that.

It's great you have chosen Chichester because from all I've heard they are fantastic. My pre op care so far has been great and Mr. Slater! he was wonderful. I've only met him once but he is reassuring and honest. He'll tells you exactly what he expects you to lose and what is going to happen. I found him to be quite a serious man but such a gentlemen that he will really reassure you if you get him. Having said that the other surgeons working at Chichester have rave reviews too. I'm not sure how many anaesthetists work at Chichester that specialise in our type of surgery but the one I met was pleasant and reassuring too. The nurse I met was brilliant and the dietician was good too. So you know you will be looked after.

Good luck and I hope this part goes quickly for you :) x

I would like to take a guess that one of the most common names on here is Shelley! I know of at least 3 of us, for a more unusual name that is lots!

Welcome! I had a by pass on 4th may and nearly at the end of my 3 weeks liquids, can't wait til Friday! All the weird and wonderful questions can be found and answered here, and as my family can confirm, it is very addictive!

Thanks Shelley! :D That is strange, especially as you say it isn't that common of name like you say. Yeah definitely addictive, I'm starting to tell myself to step away from the computer hehe :D x
