key hole or open ?

rybens

yorkie puddin!
:confused:Hi all is the difference in the way bypass is done as in key hole or open down to the dr or is it done for different personal health reasons?

I do believe that its either down to the surgeons preference, the PCT fundings and health of patient but there is probably more to it than just these. I'm a bander done through keyhole so I'm not quite sure on any other reasons. Someone will let you know shortly.

It depends on a number of factors, the surgeons abilities as laproscopic procedures are a lot more technical, the facilities at the hospital or any underlying conditions the paitent may have pre op that determine weather the procedure is done open or laproscopically.

The recovery time with a laproscopic procedure is a hell of a lot less than an open op, most paitents are up and running within a day or two and back to full speed in about 2 weeks, open paitents take a lot longer to recover and tend to have additional conplications with wound healing and mobility post op.

yeah i personally would prefere key hole but i didnt know if was get whats available type of thing , id seen some pics of a lady on here after keyhole and she was very neat and not much bruising , ill have to ask that at my next meeting , thanks for the info x

I had keyhole back in March and I am amazed at how tiny the scars are. They're fading too, soon it will hardly notice at all.The only thing i notice is when I bend over the incision sites dimple a little. For a major operation, the cosmetic result is fantastic with keyhole.

ive never had bypass surgery but i had to have my gallbladder removed by keyhole, the dr said that they always have preference to use keyhole for surgery due to better healing less risks etc so id assume keyhole unless there are complications

I can vouch for how tiny the keyhole bypass scars are, i've seen my mates:DI'm having keyhole on Friday:D:D

I think its usually a funding issue - depends on what your PCT will pay for.

I wish I'd had had the option of keyhole, I had open surgery and my scar is massive!...oh well, when I have a tummy tuck that should get rid of at least half of it! lol...;)

Hey Rybens,

Our PCT, and both Mr Dobbins and Mr Ainsle perform the operation Laproscopically. However, they cannot guarentee this because if something goes wrong then they might need to open you up to sort things out.

You can always ask and confirm this next time you see him though!
