I'm seeing this too late to choose but I like them both. The orange one looks like a dancing dress and the light one looks like a dinner dress. Now which to choose if both are going on??? I hope you have a great night.x

Hey Nicky, you might remember me from last year, I went to Czech for a sleeve but after pre ops got refused because of an underactive thyroid?
6 months on and i'm now considering a band over here and i'm going to a presentation evening tomorrow at a private hospital then hopefully booking a consultation with the end of May in mind for the op.

Can you tell me:
why did you opt for a band
can you feel the valve
do you feel or have you ever felt hungry since you've had it? Sounds daft, but i know with the sleeve the hungry hormone is reduced too.
You've done amazing to have lost 5 stone in 9 months, its amazing. How much had you lost at the 6 month mark?
Im a gym member so i've every intention of going at least twice a week, do you go or is your weight loss down to diet?
How did you feel afterwards, how long did it take before you were up and about?
Do you mind telling me what size you were at the start? Im trying to get a rough estimate for where i could be at for xmas!!!

I know i'm asking some really personal questions so please feel you have to answer them.
Thanks
xx

Hello hun, I do remember indeed and of course I can answer your questions :hugs:

why did you opt for a band - because I didnt feel like it was as dangerous, it was cheaper and reversable. My weight issues have always been down to meal size, not chocolate etc - so the band works for me as reduces my portions but i can still drink alchole and chocolate without any side effects.
can you feel the valve - only if i wanted too, have to press deep when standing or if i am layin down, i can feel it easier. You cannot see it tho (not risen)
do you feel or have you ever felt hungry since you've had it? Sounds daft, but i know with the sleeve the hungry hormone is reduced too. - more restriction you have less hunger you have, i eat because i fancy food not because i am starving. But u do need to make sure ur not eatting out ov the sake ov it.
You've done amazing to have lost 5 stone in 9 months, its amazing. How much had you lost at the 6 month mark? Tbh its good but it should be a lot more. At 6 months i had lost 5 stone. I have been drinking and partying a lot lately as you can see by my pictures so weight loss has slowed down. If i wanted too tho, i could lose it quicker but i am happy right now - and i am not in any rush
Im a gym member so i've every intention of going at least twice a week, do you go or is your weight loss down to diet? Tbh i havent gone much, so u will likely lose quicker than me. I try and go once a week lol
How did you feel afterwards, how long did it take before you were up and about? First few days were uncomfy, as u have to sleep on ur back but after 10 days i was fine. I was emotional tho, and worried if i had done the right thing but that was just my hormones at the time. I forget i have a band in me tbh, only think about it when i eat and then i have to eat slower and eat the right things. Dnt really eat carbs anymore..as after meat and veg i am usually done.
Do you mind telling me what size you were at the start? I was a size 22/24 and now a size 16

Im trying to get a rough estimate for where i could be at for xmas!!!

The things i struggle with is eatting slow and if i drink alchole i cannot eat much the day after as ur dehydrated and band is too tight. Since i have restriction, i was sick a few times as i was learning what to eat/how slowly to eat.

How comes you didnt go for the sleeve hun? Let me know if u have any other questions and good luck working out what is right for you. Most people have sleeves/bypasses and i was worried i made wrong decision but i know i am happy with my surgery so i dnt compare myself to others. Xxx

Thank you so much, your answers have more or less made my mind up. Im still going to go to the presentation tomorrow and book in for a consultation.
The hospital is local, (2/3 miles away) so thats a massive bonus for me and peace of mind for my hubby.

I paid my deposit and flew to czech. After a crazy 2 hour car journey i arrived at the hospital for about 11:30pm. At 5:30am i had blood tests and from 8am i had the other pre-ops. As soon as i had the camera put down they told me i had an underactive thyroid and couldn't have the op. They'd have known after my bloods came at 5:3oam, and i know this because i was asked by the nurse if i had ever had my thyroid tested and asked again by the doctor, so there was no requirement for them to put the camera down my throat because they'd already made their minds up for about 6:30am.

They then wanted me to pay the balance and said they'd reimburse me in a few weeks, it was their policy apparently. I refused to pay!
But to be fair the hospital was good to me, they helped me get a flight back home and arranged the driver to take me.

It was awful coming back on my own (i made contact with another girl who was having it done at the same time and flying from the same airport). I was so upset.
Since then ive only bought clothes out of necessity and not for fun/to feel good. Every time i go clothes shopping i keep thinking 'i shouldn't be buying this size now, i should be slimmer'.

My GP knows i want wls, he's agreed but keeps pipping on about my thyroid and saying he wont be happy till its stable for at least 3 months and then it'll be a long process. Ive even researched what hospitals are researching wls and contacted the consultants directly !!!

Ive considered the gastric balloon but knowing my luck i'll pile double the weight back on once its out!

I can't consider the sleeve again, the experience in czech has put me off.

The band seems a really good option.

Thanks again and well done on your loss, its amazing!!! xx
