My misses is in pain.

Liz you are an amazing person - thank god this forum has you x

So sorry Emma isn't feeling too great. Give her a hug from me. Sorry I can't help with any advice but I haven't had mine yet. Although I have done alot of reading and think it could be as others have said trapped wind and also it could be some bruising which I suffered terribly from when I had my gall bladder out. It was particularly bad when I stood up because of the dragging down of my tummy. Hope she feels better soon.

Hi Emma, hope you feel a little better today, if it's any consolation, I'm feeling cr*p too. I think it's trapped wind because I can't get it up or down and I feel as though I can't take a deep breath in as there's already too much in there :sigh: my ribs feel like everyone must have had a kick at them, and my bottom hurts with having to sleep sitting up and can't even explain the pain when I tried to lie on my side, boy did I cry :cry::cry: I've only managed approx 500ml fluids and a couple of licks of yoghurt yesterday.

Although Dolan Park has a fab reputation, it really is like a production line, and they had us up at 5.30am yesterday morning and downstairs waiting for our lifts by 6.45am  the waiting area we were put into was the dentistry reception and seating was not suitable for people that has just had surgery to their stomachs

I vaguely remember the nurse going through some do's and don'ts a few hours after surgery, but as we were still pretty groggy, suprisingly, I didn't take much of it in...and guess Emma didn't either as she was pretty sick after her op (I was in the room next door)

get well soon Emma, let us know how you doing.

Yvonne xx

How terrible is that, being made to get up at silly o'clock and not even letting you be comfortable while you wait...good reputation or not, this is awful way to treat someone after major surgery. And not to give full explanations to you either. How stupid and irresponsible is that.

Also, they should be making sure you can take more fluids than that...tsk tsk Dolan Park...

Sorry rant over, but this kind of thing makes my blood boil, you paid good money for these ops, the least you should get is good aftercare.

hi emma have they sorted a stronger pain killer ? how are you today ?

I generally am not impressed with how things turned out for me as in;

1) I was supposed to have a car for my own use (paid for in package price) to collect and drop off to & from home. I was collected at 2am Monday morning from my home (near Durham) only to be told that we were on our way to St Helens Merseyside to collect another lady. We didn't arrive at Dolan Park until 6.30am, during which time I spent the last hour of the journey trying to make small talk with the driver because I thought he was tired and the car kept drifting across the cats eyes in the road...I was Sh****ng myself, I was so frightened.

2) we were supposed to have our own rooms, so after 2 hours of sitting in reception myself and another girl were escorted upstairs only to be told we had to share as they were chokka block full.

not what was promised when they were taking our cash

on the plus side though, the nursing staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough for us.

I've got it all written down and am still considering making a complaint...am I being petty?

Yvonne.

Feeling so much better Liz thanks.Still a bit achy, but nothing like yesterday.

Yvonne, I was the one opposite you in dentistry.

I felt the nurses were fantastic in Dolan Park, but I did think we were incredibly rushed in the morning, I could barely move, and really thought that 6 am was a ridiculous time to be woken up, so i took my time, and told them i wasn't ready dont think i got downstairs until 7, but tough lol.

It is a bit of a money making business, and a bit of production line is to be expected i suppose, but wasnt expecting that. When they made me sit in dentistry i was in agony, then they moved me and another lady up to reception where all these people were gawking at us- was awful!

Girls i am appalled by your treatment especially when you are paying for it. Is there some sort of ombudsman you can write to and complain about the service you have received?????

I hope someone comes along after me and is able to put you on the right road were you could write a complaint - i know it's the private sector but this should not be happening in this day and age.

Glad you feeling a bit better sending you hugs with fairy dust to ease your pains x

thanks Topsy,

I'm not sure what to do...I've got the address for their customer services dept which is where we have to address any complaints, but I'm not usually the complaining type...although when £7000 is involved, maybe I should.

Hi Emma

Glad your feeling a bit better now and sorry you had a bit of a rough day yesterday. You will start to feel better every day and before you know back to normal (apart from the food).

Sorry to hear your (and Red's) hospital experience wasnt upto scratch. Theres no excuse for treating people like that!

I think you should Yvonne!

I don't know whether complaining will work- i heard a few people saying that the aftercare @Dolan was bad, and it appears to be very true, and that any complaints that had been made, were not regarded or responded to!!!!:rant2:

Its really not on though, you never know if they get 2 complaints from people operated on the same day it might kick them into action!

If nobody complains nothing will ever change.

Grrrr  sorry but Im mad for you!!!

I agree Mazza if people just think oh it isnt worth complaining then no one does and nothing improves. I know it is probably too late for Emma & Reds but hopefully it will make a difference for the next lot of patients. I got my band fitted on the NHS but it was done in a private hospital and while you are sort of on a conveyor belt the staff whilst there were lovely and couldnt do enough for me and I was only asked to vacate the room by lunchtime on day of discharge. I cant believe how they treat you when you are paying them a lot of money for what they are doing I know the surgeons are very clever people but when you think about it £7000 for a 30 minute operation and an overnight stay in hospital it is a lot of money to get treat like second class citizens when you least feel up to it.
OK rant over glad you are feeling a bit better Emma and it will get easier with every day that passes.
Sending you loads of :hug99::hug99: xx

No a production line is NOT acceptable when yo are paying good money for an operation such as this, you should put in a complaint.

glad you are starting to feel better emma, just keep doing the usualls, moving carefully, drinking plenty and looking after yourself

I'd be telling the Torygraph all about it....!!! A tell-all story from you both would be an eye-opener for those who think that it's going to be an easy ride. It's no more easy for those who go private than have NHS treatment, but it sounds like on the NHS at least they don't chuck you out at stupid-o-clock and basically rip you off.
