Hi All, I first joined minimins a couple of years ago when doing slimming world and havent been on here for along time but im back but this time i know this is the last straw and i need to take control of this and see wls as the only way forward for me.

Well this is me, Leanne aged 26 married with 3 lovely boys aged 4, 2 and half and 9 months. I love my family and my life apart from me/my body. Im 5'4" and now weigh 19 stone :( i have always been on the larger side even as a kid and i have been a yo-yo dieter since i was about 16. You name it i have done it and some more than once, Slimming World, WW, Rosemary Connelly, adios, alli, slimfast, my list could go on and i have joined the gym on numerous occasions while i loose a little weight doing this it is very short lived then i put it back on and more . I need a long term fix.
When i met my hubby in 2005 i was a size 18/20 and now i am sat here at a size 24/26 and very unhappy with myself. I have looked into gastric band for over 1 year now but never thinking i would actually do it but i know this is my last resort and i need to do this for myself and for my boys! All my family are overweight and i dont want to be the same, my mum is very over weight and has very bad arthritis. My dad is overweight and waiting for a triple heart bypass. I already get back ache and dont want to end up like mum or dad.
I hide my feelings from all but after hitting my lowest i decided to speak to my hubby a couple of days ago and let him know how i have felt for a longtime now and that i want a gastric band. He was lovely about this and he knew i wasnt happy as our sex life has taken a fall as i hate myself. My hubby has always helped me with the dieting and exercise so will help me with this.
We are now seriously going to look into this and the only concern my hubby has is if something goes wrong as you only hear bad press and never the good about things like this.
I went to my GP on Monday and she was great, i do fit the criteria and due to my family history instead of refering me to the inpractice nurses for weight management she sending me for bloods then got appt with her next week and she is refering me straight to the specialist weight management where i will see dietician and go though psychiatric assessment etc. How long does it normally take going through the NHS? Will i be waiting along time?
Also we will look into having it done privately incase we cannot get funding etc, can anyone recommend anyone near me (Lancashire)? I can travel tho, any recommendations please. Any advice/help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for waffling!

Welcome:flowers:

You'll find a alot of support from the guys on here - I know I have.

How long did it take?
I spoke about surgery with my GP in July of 2009 and had my first hospital appointment in August/Sept of 2009, then I had my op last June.

Eleven months may seem relatively quick as some have been waiting for donkeys to even get a referral app.

But I too had gone through all the diets WW (too many times to count), Xenical (twice), Lighter Life (twice) and various others - plus I had suffered with depression for 13 years (at that point), had high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes and my BMI was 42.

That 9 month wait included a 2 month group therapy placement to tackle my binge eating disorder.

Even though there are NICE guidelines and everything, the time taken seems (to me) to be down to your individual PCT, and going by what others have said varies wildly.

Hopefully someone from your neck of the woods will have more relevant info.

I asked her if she knew how long it will take etc but she was not aware, she said it has been such along time since she refered anyone she wasnt sure. She gave me the number for the specialist weight management team and said to call them and find out what happens next and waiting list.

I want to phone them tomorrow but as she has only just refered me and faxed it today i dont want to seem like im pestering so early.
