there is a wls group that meets up once a month in washington, its run by wlsinfo. would that be any good to you jayne ?

I have my first appointment at Sunderland on 28 Jan - hoping for go ahead for Gastric Bypass. Bit nervous, but i'll let you know how i get on.

Has it taken you long to get your appointment Jayne? I understand they have group sessions at Sunderland, is that what your going to on the 28th? I am sure it will be fine, a very exciting time for you.

hi jan, i live in south tyneside im not far from south shields, when i was banded a fair while ago in 2005 it was different to what it is now regarding referal to surgery point, when i 1st met the surgeon, i had to prove i could loose weight on xenical on a short term basis to make it safer for me during the op, he also wanted to see some commitment from me on a short term diet as the way he put it if i cant do it on a short term basis then i wouldnt be able to cope long term with a band, i did as i was asked and i was banded approx 6 months after that, they send appointments out for the pre op assessment ect and you will be put on the milk diet approx 10 days b4 the op., i think the only difference from back in 2005 when i was done to now is theres a group session to attend where they discuss all aspects and types of wls to new patients.

Hi Jan
The GP at the SWMS referred me at the end of November, so i waited about 5-6 weeks to get my letter and ultimately about 8 weeks from referral to first appointment. Being an anxious type i have to admit that i did email the surgeons secretary just before xmas to check that they had received the referral ! it just reassured me that the wheels were in motion when she replied to me that yes they had and i would get a letter shortly.
