Good luck to you......
Do you have the POSE in mind or are you planning another option.

Still learning how to use this site plus it's harder on the mobile for navigation. Let me know how you get along

Me too, I only joined a few days ago!!To be honest I hadn't heard until your post on here of POSE but I looked into it just now and I will ask my surgeon about it as there's no known complications following the procedure and from what I can see online, the weight loss successes are impressive...slightly higher than the band.

Hi Sophina. I had my pre op today and I hope yours goes well tomorrow. I met with the anaesthetist and he said that he was rather impressed with the success rate and said that the patients were doing really well that he met. I have yet to get my date but should be the week of the 21st. I suppose that the surgeon wants to see the results of the ecograph and bloods etc. I will then hopefully see the dietician for the preop diet which I have to say I am dreading. I dont know how much weight that you want to lose but I would like to drop 17 - 20 kilos 44 llbs or thereabouts, which is why this procedure was offered to me. I think if you want to lose much more weight ie above 70llbs you may be offered something else. There is a man though in my clinic that was 230kilos and he has lost 40 kilos in 4 months, he must be sticking to the diet very well. I will say though that not all surgeons / clinics are offering this procedure at the moment so if they dont offer it check out other clinics. Where are you based? I am in Spain. please let me know how you get on and you never know we might be able to support each other.

Still looking for people who have had POSE or are planning to do it soon. Im provisionally booked for the 25th September and I am searching high and low for a forum where I can get some support. There is nothing on the US forums too useful as its a fairly new procedure. I think it does have mixed reviews but I am paying for this myself and the clinic Im attending doesnt have a support group for this procedure as it is known as the secret surgery. I also think this is another reason why noone is talking about it as it is incisionless and some people dont even tell their spouse or family. So anyone out there Id be glad to hear from you. Ive also openend a blog in case anyone would like to join me on there.

What's pose iv never heard of it.

Is it not still experimental ?

Hi ladies,

So I had my meeting today with 2 different consultants, one in Birmingham and one in Leicester.
I am looking to have a band but wanted to ask about this as I was curious about how it worked and as you said butterflyvan, there isn't much on it on google etc....

Both consultants discouraged the procedure, there has only been 300 completed so far worldwide (most in Spain) and the results are not as impressive as they'd hoped. So much so that in a lot of countries they've stopped the study and it isn't FDA approved and probably won't be. I hope you don't mind me being totally honest as I was interested in this too, and wanted to share with you what was said.
There is another procedure, where they make no incisions.... so down the oesophagus, which so far has had good results but as its only been studied for a year there's no firm data on that as yet. It's similar to a sleeve and the costing isn't confirmed but they expect it to be around 9500.

Hi butterflyvan,

I've just put a message on a different feed of yours I think.

I too want to lose around 3-4 stone, and asked about the POSE procedure and both consultants discouraged me.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to ask.
Just wondering is there any particular reason you chose that procedure instead of a band?!

It's such a difficult decision isn't it.

I have a massive headache today :-( xxxx

Hi Sophina. Im afraid I cant work these forum things Im abit lost and cant seem to find my way back to them. where did you put the other post.
Well I chose this as it was the least invasive and I dont have to have the trouble of bands and fills and reflux etc. I was also worried about the erosion with the band. The POSE has no known side effects and you can be out of the hospital the same day. I wonder if you were discouraged because they didnt do the operation in their clinic. The pose does have mixed results but those that are committed seem to be really happy. Ive not paid my deposit yet but I asked the lady who was doing the bloods and the anaesthetist and they had seen great results in the clinic. I think at the end of the day, none are going to work unless you put in 50% minimum yourself. I was also worried about the fill that is in the side of your abdomen as i have heard that some peoples body can fight the foreign object etc. Tell me where I put another thread Im looking for it, lol

Hi Sophina. Glad to find you on here. Goodness im rubbish on forums cnat find my way around.
Well there have been many more than 300 carried out worldwide one study carried out quite a few years ago involved 147 people. My surgeon is doing 2 per month and he only started this year with the procedure. I have read on a 2 other forums that it doesnt wave a magic wand and you have to change your eating habits but your hunger is reduced considerably. I will try and find out the other procedure that you are talking about through a bit of research. I noted above some people have not heard of it. This is all carried through the mouth and you can go home the same day. There are no incisions. You can google POSE on youtube or preliminary Obesity Surgery Endeluminom. I am all over the place with the decision but after being with the professionals I felt at ease that Id made a good decision. NO cutting a major organ away or problems with vitamin deficiencies. For those who havent heard of it, it is safe to say its not for the very large people. I only have 20 kilos to lose not 70. HOwever a gent in the clinic had lost 40 kilos in 4 months. Im sure he is very dedicated. I am waiting for my bloods coming back and then Ill be given the 25th of September in the morning for my surgery date if all else well. I get put off my the dissapointed people, but then I read a positive post and Im all for it again. Its like any procedure, some cant stand the band in their body as a large foreign object and struggle with reflux and get it removed. That is money down the drain and scars on the torso. With this I wont have to get anything removed, it is permanent but can be reversed if I decide. I don't know why you would want to do that though.

Anyway hopefully someone with a positive story will come on here and can encourage. The other success stories are from 2011 2012. That is another reason I think you have been given the wrong figures sophina as this procedure has been getting tested for about 10 years more or less. Its so hard to decide especially when you pay yourself. Ill not live with myself if I fail. I have my husbands full support but obviously if it isnt successful I may aswell eat the money. lol

There is also a new thing called Transoral Gastric Volume Reduction. Very new but looks promising.

Sophina regarding your Dr saying on 300 pose procedures had been carried out. As of October 2014, 2500 had been carried out. So goodness knows how many people have had it done now. Stay in touch and let me know what you decide lovely.

Yes I think that's what it's called, whatever it is, it's not currently available privately in the UK but they're doing research and a study on it and you can have it on NHS.

It's such a difficult decision, I'm having a bit of a wobble over it all at the moment to be honest.

Both surgeons don't perform the POSE procedure as a rule because they said the studies have shown it was not as effective as other existing long term procedures.

But like you....I've gone online and can find stories to show it does work but again I don't know if there's more stories showing that it doesn't?!?!

It's such a difficult one because when 2 surgeons are saying its a waste of money, it's hard to disbelieve them!! Xxx

Yes I know. I made up my mind to have the gastric plication and then was swayed. I was just a bit concerned to the stats they gave you as its been going on for years. I think that your appetite will return at some point with the POSE but your stomach is also made 25 % smaller. I'm like you Sophina worrying about the decision especially as Im paying for it myself and its nearly 10,000,00 euros. I just feel for me at the moment that the POSE has no short term or long tem effects reported unlike the other methods like erosion with band ot vitamin deficiency etc. I also feel its the least invasive. If you don't have to make a quick decision keep researching and let me know if you find any other info on the POSE. I will say though that if I wasn't going for the POSE Id probably go for the band as it can be removed and your organ is still intact. If I was much bigger then Id be opting for the sleeve in that case, but weight and individual choice has to be considered.

I've not heard back about my results as yet but I suppose Ill hear Monday. I think you should maybe seek a surgeon who does the POSE and see what the opinion is there. Its surprising what info you get from people who are able to perform all procedures and give the patients the choice, but it is ultimately your decision.

There are no active members on here who have had that procedure.

If you read through the threads (you may have done so by now) you will see the majority of members who did have it were not as succesful as they hoped.

Yes mazza i agree its not worked for everyone but neither has the band. I think if there had been so many failures there would be more people shouting from the rooftops especially selfpay. ON another site you have people saying they are glad they didnt listen to all of the negative comments. I think Im in that mindset now. Hopefully Ill get my date soon and then I will report my journey. If its unsuccessful you will definatley hear from me. LOL

I'm not sure what you are getting at here?

Yes, surgery doesn't work for everyone - but thats all surgeries. I can only go by our members experiences, all of which would of been selfpay and all of which were a number of years ago. As I said we have had no recent members who have had or are considering POSE.

I wish you well with whatever you decide.

OK, Had my POSE surgery on TUesday. Went without a hitch and the care was fantastic. Went in 8am and I was home in my bed 7pm. I have to admit that a night would have probably been better but wanted to be home for dog. Pain in oesophagus and throat for 3 days and the acid was pretty bad. I followed the meds and diet to the T. I have to admit I was back at work Thursday Friday and could have done with the time at home but had to be done. So 5 days on Im feeling great, cleaned the house and operating my life as normal. Im not sure if I have hunger or its still the acid, but it soon goes away after a broth or acid relief. Before the Pre op diet I was 80 kilos, day of surgery 77.6, this morning 74. Im amazed how the weigh is going down each day. But Im not eating anything off the list. My skin is clear and my energy levels are surprisingly high given its yoghurt, juice, broth and protien shake. So with the 13 llbs off Im feeling much better and a lot less bloated particularly in the face and upper body. All in all happy bunny. I do think though that unless the diet is followed this wont work. Im not sure if I could eat normally as I think id be sick at this early stage. I hope it continues to be successful, as mentioned there are very few people on forums to talk to but I thought Id let you have an update.

Ah that's brilliant.

I'm so pleased for you that it's all going so well.

Keep us updated, nearly a stone hey.....that's a dress size!! How much do u want to lose in total?! Xx
