Post bypassers - food questions

Sorry guys if I'm repeating questions already asked.

Was just wondering, once you start eating solid foods, can you manage (obviously in very small quantities):

Fruit - particularly bananas and melon
Toast
Salad
Baked beans (reduced sugar)
Cereals (any you can't manage?)
Small jacket potato
Rice
Pasta
Yogurts

That will do for now lol.

Thanks :D

Hi Karen

Everyone is different. I'm about 5 months post op now and this is how I am with the foods you mention:

Fruit - particularly bananas and melon - can eat in small quantities, although early on I had a scary dumping experience with half an apple.
Toast - still can't cope very well with bread, even toasted. It makes me feel very uncomfortable. I loved bread pre-op!
Salad - no problems. I eat small salads with most lunches.
Baked beans (reduced sugar) - no problems. Beans are very useful for protein as I find most meats quite difficult.
Cereals (any you can't manage?) - I can only eat Weetabix and Shredded Wheat and only then in small quantities. There's too much sugar in nearly everything else and I dump very easily.
Small jacket potato - no problems, can even manage the skin if I chew it well.
Rice - no problems in small quantities
Pasta - no problem in small quantities.
Yogurts - have to be very careful with the sugar content. Even 'diet' yoghurts tend to have high sugar levels. I stick with Mullerlights and the raspberry Activias (which have less suagr than most of the other flavours)

Sorry guys if I'm repeating questions already asked.

Was just wondering, once you start eating solid foods, can you manage (obviously in very small quantities):

Fruit - particularly bananas and melon - 9 months out and I still have problems with bananas. I think it's bcause they are quite dense.
Toast - OK, but 1 slice fills me up and didn't start until about 3 months out.
Salad - Yes, but again 2-3 months post-op
Baked beans (reduced sugar) - 1 tbsp is the limit.
Cereals (any you can't manage?) - Yes, except the obvious sugary ones.
Small jacket potato - Yes, but only recently.
Rice - only if part of a dish like soup, never as a main part of a meal.
Pasta - As with rice.
Yogurts - Oh yes! No problem there, but only EasiYo LF varieties.

That will do for now lol.

Thanks :D

HTH. xx

I'm fine with everything, just as previously said have to watch the sugar. She says sat eating a Wispa.

Thanks guys.

It would be muller light yogurts anyway.

Also would probably be weetabix for cereal as I know my favourite (crunchy nut cornflakes) will be out. But what about readybrek or porridge?

Muller lights make some people dump if you try to eat a whole pot, they are quite high in sugar!

I'm slowly eating a tiny bowl of porridge (instant) as we speak. It's reay useful on the pureed food stage. BUT VERY filling!

I used to have a good spoonful of golden syrup on mine.......obviously now that is a BIG NO-NO! :D

Have a look for recipes for porridge aimed at babies, as obviously they are unsweetened. I make porridge for charlie with fruits or spices in.

I could have written this myself! I am 5 weeks post bypass and the only thing I can't stomcah is scrambled eggs! yuks! And what is funny, when on the mashed food stage I loved them.

I'm 3 months post-op:

Fruit - particularly bananas and melon Yes, but I've recently discovered that bananas aren't very good 'cos they have too much fructose compared with other fruit
Toast - Yes, half a slice
Salad - Yes
Baked beans (reduced sugar) - Yes, and with 1/2 slice toast, but only half a small tin
Cereals (any you can't manage?) - Haven't tried many - I'm OK with NAS muesli and Weetabix, I did try some cornflakes but wasn't sure they went down well
Small jacket potato - Yes, including the skin
Rice - Yes, in very small quantities
Pasta - Ditto
Yogurts - Yes, I eat Muller Lights and Activia fat free

I don't have any bother with any of those foods. I didn't try the rice or toast till after 3 months post op and then did so very tentatively !
I'm now quite confident in eating all savoury foods, its just the sugary stuff i avoid as i can't bear the thoughts of dumping.

Okay here's my eating in relation to your question:

Fruit - particularly bananas and melon - no problem although green apples really fill me more than red ones!
Toast - yup from early on
Salad - lettuce isn't overkeen on me but the rest yes :)
Baked beans (reduced sugar) yup all over me toast!
Cereals (any you can't manage?) nope love cereals
Small jacket potato - yes and it fills me with the filling for a long long time
Rice - not big lover of rice so not tried it
Pasta - not massive pasta lover so not tried yet but i will
Yogurts - love them and sugar free angel delight

Eggs were a problem at first but tried them again a week or so again and they were okay, had scrambled eggs today and thoroughly enjoyed them! Who'd have thought 2 scrambled eggs could fill me up ay!!!

A good question & some very good answers-thanks:)

Hi lovely. For me....
Fruit - no problem
Toast - only 1/2 a slice but pretty much avoid anyway
Salad - no problem (took ages to eat cucumber skin though)
Baked beans - no problem
Cereals - took a long while before I could eat them but fine now. Museli a bit heavy. Usually eat shredded wheat or multi-grain hoops
Small jacket potato - Never managed more than 1/2 but can eat the skin
Rice- no problems
Pasta - no problems but I only have a little (e.g. 10 peices regular sized or mini ones)
Yogurts - Generally fine but have to be really careful about sugar. Have dumped twice on yoghurt now. First time was Onken whole grain peach and the 2nd time was just a few weeks ago in USA. I stick to Muller lights or weight watchers when I'm home.

Hope that helps.

I am 16/17 months post op - here you go lovely xx

Fruit - particularly bananas and melon - All fruit I have managed to eat from day one of mushy to solids with no issues
Toast About 3 months post op, toast was fine and I love the stuff!
Salad Always and forever, easy peasy and can managed loads!
Baked beans (reduced sugar)full of protein and easy to eat!
Cereals (any you can't manage?)weetabix and shreddies make me dump, they have hidden sugars, but muesli made with no added sugar is fine, and I add dried fuit?! Random but true!
Small jacket potatoyummy and easy, skin and all
Ricenever, always makes me ill
Pastadont like, neither does my pouch!
Yogurtscareful on sugar content if your sensative, but I can eat all of them :)
