Hi guys,
I am so disappointed with myself. I was banded on the 10th of June and I weighed 116kg from my preop and on the day of my surgery I weighed 105kg a total loss of 11kgs. I have neither gained nor lost any weight since then, maybe just 2kg more. How're ever, I have been n solid food since the start of this week and I had several parties and barbecue to attend and I have been endulging in all kinds of food in small quantities. So I decided to check my weight this morning and I have gained about 5lbs. I am so devasted, please guys I need your help, my first fill is on the 17th July and please tell me that I am going to start having restriction because at the moment I have none and sometimes I feel as if I do not have a band. Please banders Help me i need your advice.

Iam not a bander but I think you've answered your own question as to why you have put the 5lb on. Don't get me wrong Iam not having a go as Iam in exactly the same position.
I wud imagine once you have your fill things will be so much better for you. Good luck

I'm a sleever so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about but I've been on this journey for six months now and I'm just starting now to feel confident in my new eating skills in order to go out and eat in company where there is pressure/ I preceive pressure to eat more and indulge. And even after these six months I'm still struggeling to make the right food choices so maybe you might try staying away from social eating situations and learn to eat a clean diet. Resriction is one thing and I do hope you'll have it with the next fill but it's about making the right food choice every time you take a bite. Even with serious restriction (which I think I have) you can still eat enough ice cream, chocolate, butter etc. to gain weight. Good luck and keep us posted.

This question is very common. It is expected to gain done weight after you have been on a liquid diet for 4 weeks then on a purée diet for two. It's your body getting used to the good once again. Try not too worry. My surgeon even told me this. I'm not anywhere near there yet as I am 2 days Post-op. honestly I wouldn't worry, but try not to eat calorie laden high fat sugar foods. Your band is a tool not a miracle xx

indulging even n small quantities can have an effect, and with the band it really is about the choices we make of what we eat, not always easy but something we need to do, if you're going to a BBQ make yourself up a crunchy salad for example and then just partake in one thing from the BBQ so you don't feel left out.

Forward planning is key :)

Thanks guys I really appreciate all your advice. @ topkat you are right about taking salad or something more crunchy because sometimes I do feel left out and thats why i tend to eat. So thanks for all your advice and I hope ones I get my first fills , I will work with it properly to attain my goal.

I had some weight loss related CBT a few years back and one of the things I took away from my sessions was the saying that "food doesn't make you fat -habits do." None of us became overweight because we ONCE ate a bar of chocolate or had a biscuit or had a bit too much to eat at a BBQ; no, it was the regular habit of how we behaved around chocolate or biscuits or anything else that led to our weight gain.

So for me now, post surgery, even though I have the tool of my sleeve to help me lose weight, I'm very aware that it has to be coupled with the acquisition of new food and drink based habits too. I'm very sociable and (used to) eat out a lot and so my challenge is aligning my wish to be with friends and family with my new life - and that has, for all of us, got to include new habits around food.

Just my 2p. Good luck with your band, OP xx

Hi there all, I had the same worries, my 2nd week post op I only lost 2lb compared to the previous week of 12lb whilst still on a liquid diet. I know the large weight loss in week 1 was "abnormal" and not sustainable but I was kinda hoping for maybe 5 or 6 more lb's to come off in week 2 even though this may have just been me being unrealistic.

One thing I did notice though, my scales not only do weight, they measure body fat % as well and even though my total weight didn't come down that much in week 2 my body fat percentage came down nearly 8%.

I may be deluding myself but I kind of want to think now that a small loss or no loss is not the end of the world because your body is still working at reducing things that shouldn't be there and building up those that should and "redressing the balance" if you like. It helped me stay motivated as well, when I was flickering between those same weight numbers on the scale for a few days and there was a big dip in fat % it still made everything seem worthwhile. I'm in week 3 now and just started mushies which is like heaven on earth so I'm expecting to put some weight back on, but I'm not getting stressed about it. Come my fill on the 4th August I'll be ready to go to the next phase.

I was kinda of lucky that mr summersmade it clear not to expect any major losses and gain may happen until first couple of fills done most people newly banded don't have restriction. that said choices make all the difference I decided not to worry about loss straight away but until I had restriction I would maintain my preop loss and this worked and then I started losing really well
as for bbqs I used to take sqewers of cherry tomatoes courgette and prawns or thin bacon on and once they bbqd they lovely tasty and soft very low in calories and I never felt I was missing out add to that a bit of salad and I was a happy bunny bbq meat is usually dry and as your restriction grows your going to find it incredibly hard to eat

Thanks guys for all your comments. I am happy the weekend is now over, because i tend to loss weight more weight during the week as i tend to get busy and try to plan my meals better rather than eating outside. My problem is sometimes going out with friends and family who do not know that I got a band, so it makes it difficult when they assess my eating and why I am not drinking water during or after meal. So it's kind of hard for me as I love socialising. However, topkat gave a sensible idea which I did, I took some salad when I went out BBQ with friends and it stopped me from endulging. I will be having my first fills tomorrow, hope we work together as best friends and my first child. Lol

My first fills went well. So I now have 4mls in my 10ml band.

Hi hun, I'm the same, banded on the 12th so just after you, and if you look at my stats in my signature, you will see I lost a massive amount in that 1 week post-op and have been practically stagnant since, but you have to remember that most of what we lost then was due to, frankly, dehydration, and as we re-hydrate, this is quite normal. but I know what you mean, I feel exactly the same way, I know it's unrealistic to expect the same loss to continue, especially pre-fill, but in our heart, we still hoped it would happen. I know. ;)

Don't worry, it will be fine, you'll get your fill done and soon you'll be losing again, nicely and steadily and you'll laugh at yourself, and I'll be right there alongside. :)
