Met up with my lovely dietician this week. You will note my increased use of compliementary adjectives as he let slip during our meeting that the business monitors this forum. He inferred that they keep an eye on the advice being given out and reminded me to only take medical advice from professionals. I suspect they are also keeping an eye on their 'brand'.

Hmmmm... You'll be pleased to know I made a strong case back that of course I'd only take professional advice on medical issues ....but that this site offered all sorts of support they could not... the real experiences for one, shared insights, photos, emotional support etc

So.. I feel a bit 'watched' now as they could quite easily work out who I am based on information shared and I enjoy the anonyminity.

Still... my dietician is lovely ......

Wow, that is a bit of a dreary thought, that we are being watched by companies. Ick!!!

Ah, well as long as they don't post what does it matter. Hey, what if they do post? Wonder if there is a way to keep them from infuencing people on here, hmmm....

Actually i've spoken with my dietician about mins and the kind of post op support you recieve from other WLS paitents and they think its great, clinical studies have shown and proved that paitents that attend support groups post op tend to lose a lot more weight than people that go it alone ! and he activelly recomends mins to people thinking of undergoing or as a good source of help and support for post oppers ! so its not all bad

Yes i agree that you should always follow the advice of your consultant or weight lose specialist, but ask yourself this question......... how many of these doctors or dieticians have actually had a band or bypass ? on mins you get to talk with people like Shel and PH who talk the talk and walk the walk, no doctor can tell you what its like post op not to be able to eat or do things, none can describe how your going to feel or the problems your going to face, and not many have actually been through it to experience it first hand - we all have ! thats a fact
So whilst none of us are medical experts and dont advocate as such we have all gone through it and as such that makes us a unique bunch !

Its not really surprising that they monitor sites like this, it gives them insights into peoples understanding of the processes, and what is popular so they can modify their sales pitch to ensure the right info is given

I do think your right Sage, i also think that they maybe trawl through the site to get a better understand about what lifes like post op, to be honest they really didn't sell me my procedure, i was just given the two different options and adviced about the differences, ok i know its a sales pitch, but i walked in the door wanting to buy, so they really didn't need to sell it to me.

SS same here i walked in knowing what i wanted, and just needed to ask a few questions to reassure myself about the surgeon ect and then i was sold.

My surgeon let slip to me early on that he had read either here or my blog. That was NHS funded surgery! At the end of the day it's a public forum, so there's nothing anyone can do about it.

I think I'l wait until after my bypass to post a pic...just in case!! Don't want my surgeon to hear me moaning about him or my lack of control over my eating then deciding he doesn't want to give me the op cos of the posts i've made here!!! lol

They may be watching, But how much? Do they really have time or inclination to study everything in detail. Nah and thats where the devil is!!

i really dont think it matters if they pop on to have a look as most surgeons encourage a support network between patients either through forums such as this or patient run support groups, its the same thing really just online.

i told my psychologist about this site and she was really pleased that we are all here to support oneanother and said she would pass on details to other pre op patients ,as we all do better with support in her viewsiholog:

I'd guess if your surgeons any good, gives good advice and looks after your welfare through out your journey, then you dont have a problem, if he/she's crap and you have many post op issues, then they only have themselves to blame !

I really only have experience of the private sector, and my experience has been 100% positive so far, the advice i got from my consultant was spot on, my surgeon is in my opinion a god, and the post op care, advice and support is second to none. Therefore i have no problem talking about them here or recomending Healthier Weight to anyone else considering WLS

Why am I not surprised? On other WLS sites I see advertisements from surgeons, etc. I know they monitor a lot of them.

i do be paranoid. i do be reluctant to discuss my situation on here for fear any of my drs or former drs happen to read here and recognise me [i know i don't matter and i would be the last thing on there mind ...other patients are more interesting ..at best i am just a number at worst they can't stand me..but i do worry about people hating me]

anyway i don't want to be critical of my drs or anyone but myself..and worry i come across that way[ie..i worry i am being critical of my drs when all i am intending to do is try to clarify information about my situation/ condition]

Oh stupid dont be so hard on yourself honestly everyone has it tough at times and feels down for one reason or another and you are no different.
Dont get paranoid about Docs popping into these sites. I think as SS and SAge said they monitor in order to better perform when selling their trade for WLS, and also maybe even gen up on how people feel post surgery.
Hope you feel better soon, and find another name, Stupid is not I am sure what you are. Think more positive about yourself and you may feel more able to get started on that journey
