I love 'em! At least I used to. I haven't tried them since my op.

I'm 7 weeks post op today, do you think its safe to eat them or should I wait a bit longer.

For info a 30g portion (about 1 tablespoon) gives you

163 calories
11g protein
1.7g carbs
12.4g fat (good fats)
and almost 25% RDA iron.

Seeds, skins & peels are the hardest things to digest after bypass because of the shortened intestines. Some people have no problems with them at all, but others can't tolerate them . You seem to be doing well with your food so I don't see why you couldn't give them a try if you like. As always, go slow, chew, chew, chew and report back how it goes. Also, the calorie content is kinda high for a snack so you might not want to do it all the time but as an occasional treat it sounds good.

Really!! I've been eating them for two years, a largish handful several times a week. They are really good for you being packed with omega oils. I thought they would be a good snack as they are also relatively high in protein.

I`m having half a small roast butternut squash with a small piece of low cal feta sprinkled with seeds for dinner mmmm it`s so yummy and warming, i`ve had it for the last 3 nights (probably be sick of it tom, but hey ho....)

sunflower seeds are meant to be good for dieting. Not sure about having them after bypass tho. Sure these guys are right with their concerns tho. You could try and see, might be fine for you. Take care R x
