Pyjamas or nighty for post op?

PinkDaisy

I will do it this time!
Hey,

Im just ordering nightwear to take into hospital for when I have my band in just over 20 days time!!!!

Will the holes be tender for pj's to go over is it best off wearing a nighty??

XX

I would want to wear PJ's as at least you can keep a little dignity when they examine your wounds...I know I said this in another thread but I don't want to lift my nighty.

(((hugs)))

haha gud point!! I think i'll go for PJ's 1 size bigger so their loose over my stomach x

I did start looking at men's PJ's because of the fly and drawstring so that they can be lose over your tum...then all I would need to do is take up the arms and legs.

If you get some plain one's you can embellish them with lace on the pockets, collars and cuffs, or even nicer buttons to make them a bit more feminine.

(((hugs)))

Nightie it's easier and comfy especially with a catheter in - it's also cooler xx

i took both but they said to wear my nighties easier for going to the loo as well and they may cathetarise you as well x

Hi Pink Daisy, I haven't had a bypass but from previous experience in hospital I would say wear what you are most comfortable wearing to bed. Personally I am nightie person, but my sister is a PJ. If you wear a nightie do you wear knickers with them, if so you may want to look at the kind of knickers you are taking in? Either grandmas (to cover wound and reduce irritation) or miniscule to avoid the wound? If you have on a nightie the nurses/doctors would normally cover your lower half with a sheet enabling you to maintain your dignity. Hospitals can be quite hot so try and take nightwear that is cotton and not synthetic. If you do wear PJ's check the gape between the buttons. All the best.

I bought a cheap pair of PJs from evans for after my op and just worn them with the waist band below my tum and they were fine I had open bypass and had a catheter fitted with no probs

Hi

You will be in your gown when you come back to your room. As soon as I could get up, go to the loo etc I changed into a t-shirt and jogging bottoms and stayed in them for the rest of the day. The rooms are very warm so I would suggest a nightie to sleep in - you wont get asked to lift it, your wounds will be covered in big dressings so by sleepy time there will be no need to inspect them.

Jogging bottoms are a good idea for travelling home too.

PJ's for me. I had a band and wore my pj's as soon as I could get out of the gown. Did'nt have any problems with the keyholes. Although it was warm they were better for me because I hate wearing anything in bed so I just slept on the top of the bed all covered up.xx

i'm taking neither!! shorts and a vest for me in hospital, at home, well, i don't own nightwear, won't go into details cos it'll give you nightmares :D

OOOH I cant decide, i wear both at home I dont really mind but I do hate being hot so think I will take jogger bottoms and t shirt as well as a nighty!

Nighties, as they need access to your bits for catheter etc. Also I hate pjs;):D

Aye, it's the one thing I'm dreading, as well as the tube up my nose :(

Pink Daisy is having a band with the same comapny that did mine, you dont get catheterised - thank goodness :D
Oh right:DI still hate pjs anyway:D:D

Thank goodness thats a relief mazza, thanks for that!!

Pyjamas it is! lol x

Hi
Nightie was fine for me when I was banded on 18th July at Preston.
Your still in op gown when you come back from theatre and the paper pants provided keep your modesty in tact. As soon as you recover from anaesthetic you can get up, visit the toilet and freshen up and change into your own nightwear then. All wounds are covered with a dressing after the op and the only real requirement is frequent access to an arm for blood pressure checks. Staff at Preston were excellent and you will be in good hands. Take care and good luck.
