Restriction gone!!

Hi all, I had my band fitted 2 1/2 years ago. I had good restriction at certain points and have managed to lose over 75lbs. However, for the past 10 months or so I have no restriction whatsoever! I am really struggling now and have put on 24lbs in that time. I am so depressed about this. My aftercare has come to an end and I cannot afford to pay for futher visits to my specialist :-(

Has anyone else experiences this after a while of being banded??
:wave_cry:

Hi Jinkles

I was banded a few months after you and I certainly expect to exprience this at some point. I have lost all of my excess weight but I suppose I have resigned myslef to the fact that if I start gaining and experience lack of restriction I will have to pay for a fill.

Is it worth asking your GP for help? there may be some way they can refer you for NHS fills. Worth a try? x

Hiya Mazza, thanks for your reply. I have thought about going to my gp but my band is already 11.5mls full. My band will only hold 12mls.
I have thought that maybe if I could get all the fluid taken out for a week or two, then have it put back in slowly if that would give me restriction back, just don't know what to do.

It might be that you have lost some of your fill over time, so yes that sounds like a good idea, or even everything out and put back to 11 1/2. I have had that done twice now. The first time I had lost 2 mils - due to having operations, some of the saline evaporated, the second time was just to make sure but everything was as it should be!

So you lost some of your fill naturally then?
I am gonna have to speak to my gp about this, but I think my chances of getting referred on the nhs are near enough to zero. My pct is withholding all funding for weight loss at the mo!!

Not yet but I expect to over time. The time I lost some was due to having two operations, apparantly the anesthetic gasses caus ethe saline to aspire  Sounded feasable to me though.

Good luck with your GP :D

Can't help but I wanted to say hello as I haven't seen you posting for ages :)
