has an yone been to the weight management clinic in salford:wave_cry::wave_cry::wave_cry:

I think Nic (Phatgirl) went there.

I was sent to weight management at the Willows, does that ring a bell? The lady was lovely and I saw her 2 times (was agreed to be 6 months but I begged and pleaded to have it reduced) and then was sent on to Dr. New (consultant) at Salford Royal(Hope).

HTH,
Nic:D

not sure the doctor just said today he was going to refer me but im not sure how often i will have to go, how i will get there and when due to work and two young children or how it will help .

I know, I at first found it frustrating to be sent for weight management. I felt like what, they think dieting never occured to me or something. I was actually very negative about it at first. Then it dawned on me that I could take this opportunity to really be honest about what I eat and how much. I was tasked to start a food diary and discuss proper nutrition and portion size with my dietician. It was really very helpful and helped me see what I would need to make changes. I really am glad that I was offered that step on my journey to wls because it only confirmed what I already knew which was that I needed, not just wanted, surgical intervention.

I know this is hard for you and as I have said before, I had an 18 month wait for my surgery so I get how you feel. PM me any time and I will be happy to help you through what seems impossible.

Best of luck,
Nic;););)

kerry Dr new is head of weight management at salford royal and it was him that i was refered to. Do you mind me asking what your BMI is because depending on that it will determine what route for weight he takes. Also where are you from?

hi my bmi is 47.1 and im 23 st 8lb they look at me differently as i am 5ft 10 i manly seem to carry it on my stomach which is so hard to loose it from.it just seems to be a long going and upsetting process i have two young children and want to enjoy them while im young there are so many things i cant do and my girls dont understand that.and its so frustrating that someone decides yes you can and no you cant .

Im sure if you are under dr new he will get you sorted over the past few weeks i have had several phone calls from some of his new patients and also when i was in clinic he asked if i could stay and talk to a couple of others. they didnt have BMI,s as high as you but he was recommending surgery.

good luck and i hope it is dr new who you see as he really does have great understanding of how obesity impacts on peoples lives and really wants to help.
take care
carole

Hi
Yes I have finished a 6 month weight management course in salford
you can choose 3 places to go
I chose teh new Walkden Lift Centre
It is for a minimum of 6 months I was told and no matter what they would not reduce it
you go once a month to be weighed and you keep a food diary

did it help i just think they are running out of ideas and sending me on anything.
ive done the sessions, pills, dieticians etc etc etc.
did you loose much weight and did they fund you after you did the 6 months

Hello
I bloody hope so LOL
I have been on xenical reductil, every diet going and was 20stone 5 when I went to see my GP after xenical was driving me crazy, she brought up a band.
but toold me to go and think about it for 6 months, well I waited 2 months and went back well actually I sent her a letter and she asked to see me.
I went and she said its all changed you now have to do a weight management course with a dietician and this runs for a minimum of 6 montsh but she woudl type a nice letter and tell them what I have been throug etc etc..
well did she heck and I wasa told for no one they woudl reduce teh 6 months !!!! gutted or what so I found thsi site and moaned and moaned LOL
That was over 6 months ago as in all I have had 6 appointments but they have taken over 7 months !!! nhs time scales are different arnt they !!!!
well I had to write down what I eat what excercise I do etc... and carry on with
xenical
I am now 18st10 (i just put 2 lb on this month)
I have treats etc... but I do stick to my healthy eating quite well. My hubby is 10stone 7 and eats the same as me
I have 3 kids ages 6, 4 and 17 months
I too want to be thinner and healthier for them as well as me. I am only 5ft 4 and have massive Bangers which dont help.

I hope that the rules have changed again and this 6 month weight management course is used differently as its OK if you are new to it all as it is very informative but come on not when you have gone through years of diets and drugs to get thinner.

Good luck xxx

Hi
Sorry meant to ask did your GP refer you ?
Did they not tell you if you were going straight to Salford Royal.
Also are you under Salford or Manchester as it is only Salford that are doing teh 6 montsh weight management course NOT Manchester
Very odd
sorry about my typing - I am lazy lol x

my doctor refered for funding they said no and the pct on the bottom of letter wrote for the doctor to refer me to salford .im just fed up with being told try this try this years i have been asking for help . i know after having the band i still need to put in the hard work but i see this as a helping aid some one telling me what and when to put food in will help it would have helped along time ago.
why is one person different from the next ??and area?? boo

Sorry just read your GP referred you
Like Pg said I at first was gutted and cried - 6 more months are they having a laugh. But I also used it to get as much info on teh band and look at what I was eating
I never knew my fave food - MAYO was 90% fat - dont laugh I know I shoudl have but I looked at it that a massive dollop at the side of "every meal" was just nothing so as soon as I knew this I bought ^% fat mayo and thats it and had a tiny spoon rather than a ladle full I also halved all my sugar intake and now only have half a spoon (if that in my tea none in coffee anymore
little steps
Good luck
Pm me anytime and I will try to help as much as I can. xx
Dont look at it as a bad thing these 6 months will fly honestly
I have been fat for 22 years so another 6 months was nothing compared to that. I have also been on xenical 4 years so 4 silly wasted years !
xx

Hi Kerry

I was referred to the weight management clinic. I was put on reductil for 6 months and lost 3 stone, they took me off it and I put it back on and more. Then I went back and was asked how I felt about a band...I had never considered surgery...6 months later after all the tests etc...I met Mr Ammori and he said there was no funding for the and and to go back to my GP. 2 weeks later I was sent another appointment and approx 4 weeks later I had my date for surgery...not a band though..a bypass. According to him they are throwing millions of pounds into bypasses in Manchester!
Hope this helps

Sally
