Hope you feel better hun, Im diabetic but pre-op so cant really help. I know some people's diabetes is cured by the op but some docs still say once diabetic always diabetic (HUGS) X

thank you dotty, hopefully i will get it sorted when i go back to the hospital hun xx

Hi Alannah, im only pre-op so not much gud but just wondered, your bypass still new, could it be it hasnt settled down yet more than your diabetes flaring up etc?

I was diabetic and still take some meds but don't have the problems you are. I know Stephieack had the same problems as you though. She has to eat every couple of hours and sets an alarm to go off to remind her, even during the night. Just eat a little, it doesn't have to be a full meal or even a full snack. Just enough to keep your BS reading up. I suggest you PM Steph and see if she can give more details. Good luck sweetie. xx

thank you bunny n john, ill send steph a pm thanks for the help john xx

Hi there
I did indeed start having loads of hypos, they could come three or four times an hour, it was getting ridiculous.
As John says I put a reminder on my phone for every two hours, though not during the night, and even if I wasnt hungry I would make myself eat. It could be a tangerine or a cracker with cheese or a cereal bar, just a little something and it really did work. In fact now, the hypos have stopped. I still go low now and then and I got very stressed yesterday to the point where my heart was pounding really fast...that made my bloods dive-bomb twice very quickly, but a kids fromage frai sorted that out.
I dont know why it suddenly stopped, I no longer HAVE to eat every couple of hours, but if it starts again I will without hesitation. Its hard to force yourself to eat when you feel sicky (hypos are usually preceeded by nausea for me) but if you just push through that you will manage and SHOULD feel better.
Its definately worth a try anyway.
Good luck and if I can help in any other way just shout xx
Steph xx

thank you steph,i have tryed to eat more often but as you said its very hard when your not hungrey, but i think it might be working cos not had a hypo for two days now but still get a blowted belly tho n that makes me feel sick as well,so keep your fingers crossed for me & it might settle down after a few more days.thank you hun xx

Alannah, sorry to be gross but are you constipated love? The bloated belly and pain could be that? Maybe you need some fibre?
I know someone on here (could be Steph I think) recommended Benefibre. I'm going to get some.
With eating so little we maybe need a little help in that dept.!!!!!

I did try benefibre but didnt find it to be much help. I have started to eat Burgens Soya and Linseed bread and its good! Moved me from going to the toilet once a week maybe to ever 2 days or so.
Steph xx

Hi Alannah,

I do hope that you are feeling much better... it's a miserable time for you and I really hope that you are able to move forward quickly.

As a diabetic, who has also recently had cancer treatments... it affects the bowels....

My specialist has always advised me to use Burgen bread (in Asda at the moment £1 offer) it's filling, soya and linseed, and can be toasted.

My sugar levels have been fluctuating... I don't know how they will settle after the wls surgery is done... but I'm prepared to still have it...then anything else is a bonus...

The main thing is to speak with your Diabetic Nurse or GP and work through this... please let us know how you get on and hoping that extra fibre may be a solution...

I shall be thinking of you and sending you loads of love and good wishes xxx
