sick of being sick

Hiya
not feeling too well at the moment. I had a band fill done on November 16th, had .75mils put in. I had chest pains for the three days I was on liquids, and called up the wls group about it. They said to stay on liquids another 24-48 hours till the pain in the chest went, if it did not go, then I might have to go and have some fluid taken out. Luckily enough the pain went off and I started back on mushy foods for 3 days, then back to normal food. I had the odd day, where food I ate, did not go past the band, I got the pain in the chest and found it uncomfortable. I would then bring up the food I just ate. Today, over 2 weeks later I have the worst day for ages. I did ok at breakfast, but then lunch time I had two tablespoons of chilli, with a jacket potato. I got the pain in the chest, quite badly, went to the loo and over a period of about 20 minutes proceeded to bring all the food up. The belching was awful, the pain was awful, and didn't seem to be bringing the food up from the stomach, but from above wher the band is fitted. I eventually got rid of the pain and kept to liquids until I got home. I started on my dinner this evening, and the same thing, only this time, I was sick for about 30 minutes. The belching was bad, the pain in the chest was bad, and I bought everything back up, from what seemed like the top of the stomach, above the band. I have had enough of being sick today, so have decided to go onto liquids for the next 24-48 to give my stomach a rest. Have any of you had this problem?? I thought my stomach had settled down from the band fill on November 16th, but I guess it really hasn't and seems like the only food I can tolerate on a routine basis is fromage frais and soups!!! My stomach hurts from the strain and I am paranoid that I have damaged something.:8855:
Can any one else let me know if they have had this problem.

thanks

liquids is a good idea for a few days as the pouch will be swollen and wont tollerate food as it will agitate it.

i hope it settles soon.

seeing that you had settled down could it just be a tummy bug that you have picked up. stick to liquids for a few days and see how it goes. must be horr.
take care

Hi MNL sorry to hear your not feeling too well at the moment I would recommend like the others have said sticking to liquids and going back through the process of mushy and if you still cant tolerate normal foods next week I would go back and let them check it.
Hope your soon feeling better xx

Hi MNL

Sorry chick but it sounds like you need a defill. Stick to strict liquids until you speak to Wendy. Trouble is, the more you are sick, the more it swells and the worse it gets.

Welcome to my world! lol No, seriously, listen to your body and don't ignore the symptoms of a band that's too tight. Give Wendy a call.

Good luck xx

i agree alice a de fill is needed or the swelling could get worse and if the band hole closes due to swelling thats not good, my band was shut down completley once and it wasnt nice being severly dehyrated.

Hey Em
thanks for the response. I am struggling the last few weeks. It seems that everytime I have to go on a liquid diet either through a new band fill, or being sick, the harder it is to do it. Do you find it harder? When I did the pre-op diet I managed 19 days on a liquid diet without any real problems, but since the operation, everytime i have to do a liquid diet, I am finding it harder and harder to cope with.

I have an appointment with a specialist dietician tomorrow, through the NHS, and as she works with bariatric patients I am going to see her and ask her why she thinks this is happening. I really do not want to go down the route of having any of the fluid taken out, and I know I would see that as a negative step for me personally, but I can;t see being on liquids for an extended period either. Thanks to all of you for your support and encouragement, also thanks for the concern, I hope I can get some helpful information tomorrow.

hi mnl, sorry to hear that you are having a rough time at the moment, i'm afraid that i cant offer any advice as i only had my band fitted three weeks ago, i just hope you get it sorted soon and hope you dont suffer for too much longer. I must admit though there are one or two of you that are really suffering at the moment and i'm not sure if i'm looking forward to my first fill in the new year. Take care xx

Hi Julieanne
Everyone is different with how they do with the band. I had my band fitted in July, and had two band fills that I had no problem with. This last fill two weeks ago, seems to be the one causing the problems, which is a bit ironic considering its the one where I have had the least amount put in. On my first fill I had 1.5 mils, the second fill was 1 mil and this fill was 0.75 mils. It is not very pleasant what I am going through at the moment and it doesn;t help that I have to go onto liquids every time there is a problem because it is getting harder and harder to do liquids alone, especially when everyone else is eating around you. Not only that, but I want this sorted so that my christmas is not ruined. I dont want to be on a liquid diet on christmas day, couldnt bear the thought of not having some type of christmas dinner. Hopefully it will sort itself out before then, as we have about three weeks to go, I will have to do my utmost to ensure that I am ok for christmas. Dont worry about how you will do, cross that bridge when you get to it. Like I said I had no problems with my first two fills and thought that I was in for a smooth ride, obviously not meant to be for me:(

take care and thanks for the post.
MNL

MNL I feel for you chick I seem to be having a few problems drinking enough and have restarted my iron tablets but they just dont seem to agree with me so I am bringing back my food....one day its great the next back to square one...I am sure it will sort its self soon...xx

emma and mnl, do either of you have any regrets about the surgery being as you are both having a rough ride with the band, because i dont know how i will cope if i suffer like you both are at the moment.
