skimmed vs semi skimmed

pandora

finding my way again !
my diet sheet says to use skimmed milk , i always had semi before .
as semi has less than the suggested fat i wondered what the reasoning behind the change is , any ideas ?

Less calories hun, i can't stand semi anymore been on skimmed for years now

im ok with the taste , just a pain buying 2 different milks lol

It will be the fat and calorie content. I have always drunk skimmed milk/soya milk. You soon get used to it.xx

its just the calories... but its up to you what one you have.
I buy skimmed milk and add marvel... which adds extra protein but less fat... but if you want semi skimmed hun then thats up to you.... i im out and have tea etc... i have whatever milk is going... i only have skimmed at home x

My Heartlands book says skimmed or semi. So at least from my hospitals point of view, both are fine :)

I will have semi after, as that is what I buy for the kids also. 2 types would mean a lot of waste x

try tipping the skimmed into a semi container and see if the girls notice !!!

I drink semi-skimmed most of the time and I am doing pretty well weight loss wise. To be honest apart from diet yoghurts (which I like) and diet salad cream - most other things I have are normal - makes life easier in the long run for me, plus often the diet foods have a chemically taste. My main aim is to try and have as much freshly prepared food rather than processed food. You just find what you like and what works for you, and build it into your overall plan- that way you are more likely to stick with it :)

i just buy skimmed milk and my daughter hasnt even noticed the difference when she makes milk shakes lol

I have whole milk like I was told. I am not sure if this is because of them trying to slow down my weight loss or normal for my hospital.

I was told to use semi because it has protein and vitamins still in it where as skimmed has had the butter fats removed that contains the good oils your body needs.

Skimmed milk also has more protein in than ss milk.

I didn't think that we're true. Confuzzled now lol

And as for cant tell the difference, to me skimmed milk tastes one step up from dishwater lol. I would prefer to have none. I will try skimmed with skimmed powder in it and see what I think.

It's only sterilised milk that I like in all it's forms :D

I love skimmed milk!! much prefer it to semi - and sterilised milk is gross eeewwww lol xx

Flufs: you're right. Semi and skimmed have the same, whole milk has slightly less. I'd read it wrong, sorry for the confusion. x

I am easily confused anyway, so no need to apologise Jen :D everything in this journey is confusing :)

Caren, I could live on sterilised milk lol

Hi

I am not at home so cannot check but IIRC skimmed milk has more calcium than SS Milk, can anyone check this or is it the other way round, I remember 1 being better than the other regarding calcium.
