hi all i was wondering what your good and bad points after you had you bypass. Do you miss any thing are you happy now its done what dont you like about it things like that :D

Good points ;

Rapid weight loss
Easy to control my portions
Improved health
Improved fitness
No longer constantly think about food
I eat to live now - not live to eat
Improved confidence
I look "normal"
No complications so far.

Bad points;
It doesn't cure the head hunger
It isnt a magic cure
It still requires hard work
Loose skin :(
There are some foods I still cant tolerate well
Frustration after cooking/preparing a lovely meal and only managing to eat a couple of bites.

Will be very interested to read everyone elses responses.

brill question:happy096: and very imformative answers, its always nice to read different these topics pre-op as things should come less of a shock post-op ;)

Good Points..

1. Weight Loss
2. Understanding Food
3. Small portions then feeling full
4. feel healthier
5. Dont get breathless
6. Save Money
7. New Clothes

Bad Points..

1. Lack of energy (This is short term though)
2. Dizzy Spells
3. Your Poo after Surgery
4. Cant just go out for a meal
5. Having to explain to people what a Gastric Bypass is. :sigh:

Agree with all of the good points so far !

All of the bad points listed (with the exception of loose skin) get better or completely go in time.

Good points:

Buying clothes in a "normal shop"
Saving a fortune in food bills
Enjoying exercise without the joints aching or collapsing in a wobbly heap
buying clothes
Feeling good about yourself
Did I mention buying clothes :D

Bad Points:

Feeling cold (should pass, but I do have water for blood lol)
Going out for a lovely meal and running to the loo two mins later, still happens even two years on!
Credit card bills from buying the clothes!

3 months post bypass and I would say...

Good points : great weight loss
vastly increased mobility
renewed dignity
starting to wear 'normal' sized clothes
not hating what I see in the mirror
many, many more things!!!

Bad points : none

Niggly points : dizziness, hair loss and dry dry dry skin.

I chose my niggly points to be niggly as they are supposed to be temporary and so for me they arent bad they are just small niggles.
For me, the good points FAR outweight the niggly points and I wouldnt change my choice of having a bypass for all of the money in the world.
In my good points I put renewed dignity and what I mean by that is that pre-op I couldnt reach all of my body when I was washing and felt so awful having to ask hubby for help. I didnt ask often, I would just stand against a wall and force my hand to reach but on occassion I got so frustrated that I had to ask for his help. I never needed help to use the toilet but I think that if I hadnt had my bypass then I would have gained more and more weight and then all of my dignity would have been lost when I would have needed help to toilet myself...so for me this is one of the biggest good points because only three months post op and I can reach every bit of my body easily and I feel DAMN good about that.
I seriously dont feel that anything about my bypass and new lifestyle could be considered as bad, I would do it all again tomorrow.
Steph xx

Good points

Weight loss
Looking like my old self when i look in a mirror
More energy (at least half an hour)
The new friends i have made

Bad points

Feeling so cold (will invest in thermals for next winter)
Wasting food
Not being able to eat certain foods

It has been a slow journey for me to get to this stage but overall i am happy with myself and the new friends it has brought me into contact with. Sending hugs with fairy dust to you all xx

Three months (today!) post op...

Good points:

Feeling fantastcally happy nearly all of the time
Weight falling off like never before
Having total control over what I eat
The daily comments from people
Feeling fitter and healthier
Loving life.

Bad points:

Just the one.....

Having a mini hissy fit when getting dressed up to go out and everything in the wardrobe fits one minute and is way too big the next...

Cuppa xx :D

Thanks you all for the info it is really help full xx

Good points
Feeling normal, not standing out as the 'big one'
Fitting into clothes that have been in my wardrobe for ages
Not always being hungry
Being able to have very tasty food vs quantity
Being able to walk without terrible pain

Bad points
I wish I'd been strong enough to lose weight without surgery
Can't eat chocolate ever again (but that's good really as it was chocolate that made me big)

I am pleased that I had the op, I just wish I'd not had to.

Only 3 weeks post bypass but:

Good points:
Already feel fitter and have more confidence.
Able to control your portion sizes
All food cravings stopped (ie Chocolate etc)

Bad Points:
Constipation
pain after (feels like you have been hit by a car) soon goes dont worry!!
Cant stop getting on the scales to see how i'm doing
Weight loss stalling early - daft part of your brain tells you it's not working.

Do i regret it? NO absolutley not.
