Dont give up its a tough steep learning curve.
For protein think about things like meat, eggs, fish, dairy products, anything man made is going to contain carbs ! not all carbs are bad, brown rice, beans and pulses contain complex carbohydrates, potatoes also contain complex carbs provided they are not fried or cooked in oil. End of the day your going to be having carbs, just try and limit the processed carbs and increase your protein.

Here's my tip - when you sit down to eat, eat the meat first, once you've ate the meat you'll be half way towards reaching restriction, then have the veg or salad and only touch the carbs items if you really need them !

Claire,

I've been the same, managed to put 2lbs on this week but I'm not letting it get to me and trying not to overcomplicate things. I feel a bit of a fake by offering advice considering i'm not doing the best at the moment, but I feel I do eat better if I follow the rules about not drinking 15 mins before or half hour after eating.

I've also discovered decaff skinny latte's, don't know if I'm gonna get jumped on for this but i find it really fills a nice gap mid-afternoon and if i'm right, a slug of skimmed milk is protein....is it?!?!?!

Don't apologise for being confused, I'm in the same boat and there'll be others who will be in the same boat and not posting it. I ertainly watch for your posts cos we seem to be very similar.

Hope it turns around for you - and you've got Richard on board giving you advice (he's a lifesaver.....WLS guru with no bull included)

Thanks Lisa ;)

Listen you guys - at the risk of getting ripped apart by the 'thou shant eat crap' brigade i think your trying to over complicate the carb verses protien thing all you need to do is just eat meat, dairy, and have a healthy balanced diet stay away from those really processed things like white bread, rice and pasta ! increasing your protein during a plateau is a good thing as (without getting to scientific) it kick starts the fat burning process again ! i dont advocate to protein shakes or drinks in any way as i prefer to eat my proteins rather than drink them, and i dont live carb free, far from it.

As an example tonight i've had battered haddock (my protein fix) with a nice crisp green salad, all washed down with a large glass of rose, that should do me till tomorrow morning now !

So my advice to you both - dont try and over think this, if you want something have it, but try and increase your base protein intake a bit and stop worrying, we are bypassers, your bodies have been re plumbed to lose weight through malabsorbtion and restrictive eating, we all lose at different rate and sometimes you will stall and hit a plateau, its all part of the game and no matter how negative it feels at the time eventually you will start to drop the wood again ! ;)

I did the same the other day in tesco with cearal thought OOOOO shredded wheat . Shredded wheat has 0.9g sugar per 100g but a 45g of it with 125 ml of semi milk changes it to 6.3g of sugar. Not thinking i picked up shredded fruitful which as 20g sugar per 100g and 14g per 45g serving with milk. I will get the hang of it one day

Tina - your over worrying - your a bypasser you malabsorb, so even if you manage to eat 500 Kcals of cerial for breakfast, your only going to absorb 250 of that, stop trying, remember you need to eat, despite what you think your body needs calories going in other wise it will stop burning fat ! besides this you will only be able to eat a tiny amount to fill up on.

It was the sugar I was worried about I have managed to stay away from the almighty Dump as yet lol. I might try them tomorrow see how I go Thanx SS

You're far less likely to dump on natural sugars than refined sugars. I can drink a proper glass full of orange juice (about 35g of sugar) but only 2 small squares of chocolate.

Richards right, don't sweat the carbs too much, just avoid the simple ones, and aim to include protein as the main part of every meal. I aim to have one carb free meal a day normally too, so a salad or an omlette or meat and veg.

Rich,

without risking kissing ur arse, I liken your responses to when i was a good catholic girl and went to confession and expecting a mighty rollocking (not telling you what i did) and just got a reassuring word and got put back on the straight and narrow.

From years of yo-yo dieting, it was not admitting to things that got me in the state i was in so being able to blurt everything out and not be judged is worth millions to me.

And as soon as i've had this ickle glass of cheeky white, I'm back on track.

Fact is I have my wobbles but i've never been happier, thats my new guage...not my scales x x x

PMSL - i know all about those so called 'good Catholic girls' ;) i can only imagine what you were confessing to lol :whoopass:

t'was them that started me on the communion wine...damn them!!!

he he, great minds and all that x x x

Cheers Silversurfer,

Sage and kindly offered advice there, kind sir!!!!!

Mintball, just private messaged you!!

I try not to bring religion into anything for fear of offending anyone, but must 'CONFESS' to being a Catholic well lapsed Catholic too. That guilt never leaves ya!! The devil is waiting with an extra hot fork to punish me for all my wrong doings. Sadly I never got any communion wine :( Priests round my way, neck all to themselves and just give us that crap, stale wafer rubbish. Don't think theres much protein or carbs in that, so needn't worry round the alter for that one ;)

Sorry God, just a little light humour around my battle with the bulge
