The Demon booze

To answer your question from my own expereince and research, you get drunk faster. You also 'feel' sober sooner but research shows that the alcohol actually stays in your bypassed system significantly longer. I have only had a couple of drinks post-bypass but enough to know that I have a limit that is pretty low now. Others will probably be along to share their personal experiences as well.

It would be wise to know how you react personally before heading out in your car and as always follow what ever directive your surgical team suggests for alcohol consumption. Also, if you have food addiction you can experience transfer addiction to alcohol. Here are some articles if you care to read them.

HC...Your the first person so far "i have heard from" who has mentioned about being full up with regard to fluid..Is this ALL types or just wine etc...And whilst writing may I say "well done" on your weight loss journey you have done reaaaaaaaally well...

Regards

no i can usually drink fluids quite freely, it was purly the wine and it was as though my pouch was in controle of me saying ive let you have an extra glass just dont push it or i will show you whos really in charge.
I do have quite a strong gag reflex and even when eating i know before i put that one mouthful too much in my mouth that im not going to manage it so it was quite refreshing to see the same happen with the wine.
i have been to several dinner dances since my bypass and just stick to flavored water bit of ice and lemon in iy looks like a G&T.
hope that helps

Ladies...really good hearing how every one is different with the impact of drink etc.I only drink a little now and not even on a regular basis and just wondered how post-op people were getting on with booze and what to do when that night out on the town approaches and looks like I could be the taxi-driver as well.....once I have my op..

I get extremely giggly just drinking one shot of whiskey or a glass of wine, the effect also goes very quickly as well, no idea whether its still in my system as not had a breatherliser test lol but then as i do not drive its not ap roblem. I tried a 2nd glass wine one day nd only managed half of it, then i started feeling acidic in my stomach.

I am definately in the 1 vodka, 2 vodka, 3 vodka, floor category now! If I feel tipsy after a small glass of wine or a small shot of vodka in a large drink then I would be lights out by the 3rd drink! I used to be the last 'man' standing when it came to drinking, never really met a person I couldn't out drink and believe me I tested that theory often. Now, I am not really that interested in drink. Not to say I don't/won't drink but I will continue to take it easy on myself since I would worry about my ability to stand/walk/speak after more than a couple! And no matter how thin and beautiful/handsome you feel, it is never a pretty sight to be paralytic and mumbling incohert conversations to yourself!

Moderation, it is the name of the game kids in my opinon anyway!
