The mechanics of protein absorption

Very interesting article, did you watch the clip with the apple sauce? Nothing like a good visual to make you think.
Thanks for sharing that one.

Thank you for sharing the apple sause will help my family understand why I can't drink and eat. Will read the other bit when I get home x

Really interesting to watch and read...I have a question though,
I will be honest and say I'm 16 months post op,and twice I've been desperate for a drink just after eating so had a couple of sips.
On each occasion I felt so sick afterwards, really bloated and just really nauseous.
How is it physically possible for people to drink and eat at the same time??
I dont understand this..or am I on my own feeling like this?

I have been bad and have been eating and drinking at the same time (only been on solids a week though) - will stop now that I know the damage it can do long term in stretching my stoma, for me not drinking with a meal is the hardest thing - it's like trying to chew sawdust! x

Do you feel sick after eating and drinking at same time?

Now that I am 7 momths post op I have found that I still don't really drink with meals the only time I need to drink is when I have a sandwich or toast or crackers they are so dry and you do need a cuppa tea or water. I got my info out the other day and checked upon this it syas when you are eating normal foods again which I am if you can eat and you are ok with a drink its not a problem but I don't do it every meal, mainly breakfast if i have a slice of toast. or a wrap thye can be quite dry otherwise i wait 1/2 an hour. xx

With a band and good restriction it can have the opposite effect ie food can come back up which is not nice!

Maybe thats similar to what you are experiencing Emma-louise?

That was a great video :) I am gonna get my youtube addiction back now and watch loads of videos lol

Not once, I have felt fab since the day of my op - not felt full, or hungry, not had any pains or toilet trouble, I have not been glugging a glass full back, but I have been constantly sipping while eating...

So since wathcing this earlier and thinking right no more fluids when eating and for half an hour afterwards - I have just had 4 melba toast with Chili phili and I feel just like I used to when I used to get stuff stuck in my band, I feel like I want to burp but can't and a little bit sick - it feels like it's all sat there just at the base of my throat - horrible !!!

i THINK its impossible to eat dry things like that without a drink as long as we not gulping loads. Certainly don't enjoy feeling like things are stuck or feeling sick, i have felt like that after eating fish and tuna and its not nice. I agree also that some meals you do not need a drink and that it can wash the goodness of food straight through your pouch and out before any malabsorbtion can occur. so we just carry on as before really keep doin what we were doing. xx

Maybe everybody is different and the water thing worls differently for everyone. We need to get to know our own pouch and work with what we know.
